Low heart rate, joint pain, dizziness and fatigue

Hi,
It’s come on suddenly but for the last week or so I’ve been feeling extremely fatigued, my joints are aching horrendously and I keep getting dizzy spells. Today my watch alerted me to the fact that my resting heart rate had dropped from 60-48 average bpm in the past 5 days.
I’m 35, generally fit and healthy with a normal BMI and I’m 6 months postpartum. I also have a nearly 2 year old so I’m always tired but this is full aching to the point that I’m finding it sore to move. Any ideas? Should I see a Dr or just wait and see if it goes away?

No help but just bumping for you op as it’s horrible to feel like that

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 30/05/2025 19:14

I'd get some medical advice asap. When was the last time you had your blood pressure checked?

Birdwordie · 30/05/2025 19:14

Sounds like low iron, have you checked with GP?

ShrubRose · 30/05/2025 19:20

I would call 111 and let them advise you. Low heart rate and dizziness need evaluating.

TeachA · 30/05/2025 19:35

I have a Bp machine and that’s normal (I can’t remember what it was but nothing alarming). I was thinking about contacting the GP on Monday so I’ll do that. I’m in Wales and I find our 111 system always just refers us to out of hours GP and I don’t want to waste an appointment which could be used by someone more needy, if it could wait until Monday. But I’ll phone them if it sounds like I should? I wouldn’t even be considering ringing the dr if I hadn’t had the watch alert- that’s frightened me a bit.

Take your pulse. Is it regular?

Yes, it seems to be regular and I haven’t noticed any racing heart or palpitations.

I’ve just put those symptoms into chat gpt and first hit was hypothyroidism which to be honest had sprung straight to mind anyway as I have it. Are you sure the symptoms have all come on that quickly? I’d arrange a blood test asap. Just to put your mind at rest my resting heart rate is usually in the fifties and often drops to around 48. Whilst you should go to the gp to get it looked into it’s not frighteningly low

Thank you- that really does put my mind a bit at ease (your heartrate). I will get a GP appointment on Monday.
The fatigue and aching joints have been going on for a while but I’ve been postpartum, running after two babies so I just put it down to that. The low heart rate and dizziness has come on quite suddenly - it’s dropped average about 12 bpm since last week- which is why I got an alert, but I have been feeling much worse this week in terms of aching and tiredness.

I just googled hypothyroidism and the symptoms do match up, except for weight gain, but I am heavier than I was a few years ago, pre-pregnancies. The ‘3pm fog’ sounds soo familiar. I am struggling every afternoon at the moment, then seem to perk up a bit in the evening.

This could just be a coincidence but I've also got those symptoms, I'm older tho', I'd add chest pain and digestive issues for myself but I'm unusually tired, with the joint pain for last week and a bit. I wonder if it's a nasty virus? Or symptoms post-viral? I'm interested in hearing what your doc says. And I hope it clears up soon for you

Boredofchange · 30/05/2025 22:01

Also here to say ive had similar symptoms for the last couple of days and also had a garmin alert for low heart rate yesterday . I have a sore throat and sinus pain - the first thing I noticed was chest pain - was wondering if it was Covid ( again)

Val1985 · 30/05/2025 22:33

Hi OP, this happened me a couple of years ago - freaked me out so much I had a massive panic attack and ended up getting a ECG, holter and echo for my heart. All was fine.
Two years on its happened every May since but gets milder every time. Dizziness this year only lasted a few days.
Get checked out to be sure but seems to actually be a post covid thing for me and I know another few women the same.
Coincidently my period has been around the same time and coincided with covid any time this has happened.

Cryingatthegym · 30/05/2025 22:37

Sounds like low iron to me too.

That’s very interesting! My period was last week so the symptoms were coming off the back of that, so again I thought it was just linked to that. I was unwell with a Covid-like illness back in March (it probably was Covid but I didn’t test, my MIL had it too and hasn’t been able to taste since). But after a week of feeling really rough, I was ok- until now.

I’ll update on what the GP says if I can get in to see them on Monday.
