Sex, basically. What can I do or who can I ask other than a GP?

MN

Mumsnet? (sorry if too flippant, but it's anonymous, so might feel 'safer')

A GP would be a good start and could probably refer you to somebody ...

Physical or emotional ? If physical, then a Family Planning doctor or sexual health clinic doctor can be really easy to talk to - and of course, they are totally unshockable

AlbertaWildRose · 21/05/2008 13:27

Do you have a women's clinic near you? I went to one as sex was really painful for me after giving birth, and they were fab.

Relate offer all kinds of relationship counselling/advice, including questions/issues of a sexual nature.

Of course I started with MN .

Probably emotional. I was told that it could not be hormonal because I don't have fertility problems.

As a GP, I can promise you that your GP will not be shocked or even surprised. We have seen it all, from things stuck up bottoms to incest.

If you don't feel comfortable talking to your particular GP, you can ask to see one of his/her partners or join another practice entirely. The GP can refer you on to a gynaecologist or counsellor as appropriate.

longago · 22/05/2008 16:11

I saw a GP about this some years ago and a gynecologyst as well. The physical problem was sorted out but the mental/emotional problem is still there and I don't see how conventional medicine can help me if it's all in my head.

Your GP can refer you for psychosexual counselling on the NHS

longago · 22/05/2008 21:58

I did not find it helpful. That's why I'm looking for alternatives.

Relate, maybe? They deffo do sexual counselling.

Therapy is tricky, you need a therapist who is good, and who fits you. Depending on the problem, maybe a normal therapist could help?
