What is this pain? (Groin since pregnancy)

Started around 8 months into 3rd pregnancy, it feels like a ligament pain but only in certain positions. I thought maybe a pinched
nerve but I’m really not sure! Pregnancy was nearly 4 years ago and it only really hurts now if I lie on my back and lift my legs up towards my head.

any ideas?

Hernia?

It’s your pelvis area getting ready for birth. Making space etc. up to 80% of women get it in the last trimester
I had it so bad I couldn’t use the stairs

Acupuncture worked for me.

just noticed you’ve still got it years after giving birth so I might be wrong. I’d see the doctor but failing that try acupuncture

Hip joint issues often present in the groin. And pain you describe in that position could point to hip impingement (FAI) and/or issues with the labrum. You’d need an X-ray to detect FAI and an MRI with contrast for the labrum. It’s weirdly common. I have this as three other people I know have been diagnosed this year. Just an idea.

have You seen your GP about it?

It could be Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), also called Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP). There is more information here: pelvicpartnership.org.uk/contact-us/

It used to said it resolved after delivery, though I see the site above now says it can continue for months or years afterwards. I still have to be careful with some activities and have a friend in the same boat. Our youngest kids are in sixth form. 😕

Are your symptoms worse in the few days before your period? Do certain movements or activities set it off? Speak to your GP. You may need a referral to a women’s health physio.

Reading that site, it says it is not hormonal. Mine used to flare up in the week before my period, enough to make me walk with a limp. 🤷‍♀️
