If you get diarrhoea after eating, did you figure out what caused it?

I have started getting diarrhoea after eating. But not every meal. At the moment I can’t see a pattern. It’s definitely related to me eating as it happens 30 mins to 1 hour after I eat but not every meal. After it’s happened I feel fine but it’s incredibly urgent when it does happen.

Does anyone else get this? Any tips for figuring it out?

I had this happen, which got much worse over a few years. I could hardly ever leave the house and ended up barely eating anything. It was absolutely horrendous and I had all the tests and a colonoscopy to try and find the cause. It was determined that I wasn't Gluten intolerant or that I didnt suffer from celiac disease..

I actually found the cause myself after reading something interesting on Gransnet. An poster talked about how she had bad reactions to coffee...!! It was a light bulb moment because even though there were days i didn't eat i always had freshly ground strong coffee. I resisted the temptation for my lovely coffee and within days there was probably a 60% improvement and then a 100% improvement after a few weeks.

My life is back to normal now thanks to GN...

So think about what you're drinking as well as what you're eating 🤔

I've never been tested but think I have lactose intolerance. I had milk in a lot of things before, now I notice the symptoms when I slip up. Mine is usually stomach cramps and gas, followed by diarrhoea. My DP has IBS and things can set him off straight to diarrhoea. I cut out dairy products and saw an immediate difference, I've now found certain processed ones like cheese and yoghurt don't impact but fresher products/whey do

I posted earlier about my wierd chicken allergy. Anyway, I also cannot eat garlic - it's not the same as the chicken allergy, which brings me out in hives and running for the loo, but it gives me terrible indigestion. I am also hopeless with cinnamon.

I did see a kinesiologist when I first started to suffer. She came up with the chicken problem. I was extremely sceptical but cut it out. A few weeks later we went to a friend's house for dinner and I forgot to tell them and they served chicken and I thought a little bit won't hurt - and I had to run from the table and I was violently ill. I then had allergy testing on BUPA - I was skin pricked with an amount of the suspected substance to see what would happen and on chicken, milk and onion he had to administer an antidote! I had suspected apple but it was fine.

This was happening to me and I went to the gp as it was getting worse and the toilet visits were becoming more urgent so much so I had to take Imodium just to go to work.
I got told to keep a food diary but also to do a fit test (stool sample) which came back as positive with signs of blood in poo which wasn’t visible to the naked eye.
This unfortunately along with the diarrhoea is a red flag for bowel cancer and I was fast tracked for a colonoscopy a few weeks later. Thankfully no cancer was detected but I had a condition called microscopic colitis, this was treated with a course of steroids and so far so good the diarrhoea has gone. Best to get these things checked out if they persist.

Are you on any medication? My dad had this and they reduced the dose of a particular medication he was on (can’t remember which one it was but he has medication for cholesterol and diabetes and anxiety) and this solved the problem

My gall bladder issues started like that.

Like everyone else- food diary!

Mine turned out to be gluten intolerance. I am 52 and was only diagnosed two years ago and it was a surprise. But apparently it is not uncommon for these things to develop later in life.
