Does IBS effect fertility or chances of conceiving?? I was diagnosed IBS but after a colonoscopy they realised it was IBD. I fell pregnant first time with both my DC x

It was IVF though but it was AI x

Unless you are on a specific medication to treat the IBS which is contraindicated for pregnancy it will have no impact at all......

I have irritable bladder (rather than bowel) and have two IVF babies.

Apparently miscarriage risk is higher for ibs patients and various other things

Well you learn something new every day! The only impact my IBD had on pregnancy was I had to take steroids for a flare up and it caused my blood sugar levels to spike and a subsequent gestational diabetes diagnosis. I had to take the GD medication along side the steroids just to try and balance the sugar levels out x

Have you started the IVF process yet?

Kindly, fertility is a mind screw up. It is literally impossible to avoid/change everything that 'might' increase risk of miscarriage. In many many cases they might observe a slightly higher prevalence of miscarriage but not understand/know the cause. For example, in IBS, many people with endometriosis also have a diagnosis of IBS. It is likely to be the endometriosis which impacts fertility given that is known to have an impact in isolation but they can't conclusively say that the IBS doesn't also have an impact given that some people with IBS have miscarriage of unknown cause in isolation (as do women without IBS).

Have you been tested for coeliac - that can cause fertility issues and many coeliacs are misdiagnosed with IBS (1 in 4 people.diagnosed with IBS are actually coeliac).

Yep
Weve started

I also have suspected endo
Hence we do down regulation / long protocol

I did both short and long protocols. My daughter was the result of short protocol but when I went back to try for my son they said there was some evidence of long protocol being more effective.

I found everyone prepares you for how tough it is physically with all the injections etc but its the emotional rollercoaster whilst pumped full of hormones that I found hardest.

Good luck with it. It's a tough road but totally and utterly worth it.
