Febrile convulsions - tell HV or not?

DS1 used to have them (went to hospital first couple of times). Last night ds3 started to have one, very hot at pool, my friend looked down and said 'OHMYGOD!' and snatched him out the buggy, stripped him down etc and he recovered. He'd sratrted whimpering, gone glassy eyed etc, so not a full blown fit, just starting one. Should I tell the HV? We are always at the GP so I am a bit reluctant (esp as baby was at A and e last week...)

If you know that's what it is (my dd has them too), i'd be inclined to mention it next time you're there but I don't think i'd make an appointment for it especially. They won't mind if you do though. You could always call the hv

Well, she will be ringing about the A and E thing so I could pre-empt her...

Ours like to check them out after the 1st (just to rule anything out) then if you are OK they let you get on with them ..... Hope you are all feeling better

Has DS3 had any tests for the convulsions?

When I was a nanny my charge had one while we were out and it was the scariest thing ever. He was rushed to hospital and given a lumbar puncture. Over time he had 4 altogether and has grown out of them now.

Oh, ok. Was bit scared as had all 4 dcs, wet after swimming! Might ring then. Thank you.

good point fpa. dd has had an ambulance for each of hers as i've been so beside myself and just when I thought I could handle them, her fits have been different so she's being monitored for epilepsy now. There's me saying no, I wouldn't make an appointment

Morethanmum · 21/05/2008 07:45

Ok, so ring her today? I'm at the hospital for me this am - doctor or GP? Spend my life at GP...

DelGirl · 21/05/2008 07:47

thanks, she's had a few episodes of staring etc but no fits that i've seen for couple of months now so that's good. Hope you get on ok

Morethanmum · 21/05/2008 07:48

Thank you for help. Am looking for HV details right now.

I think it should be mentioned on her notes (having said that, I haven't told the GP about all of dd1's fits).

Rang the HV, they are okay with it if it is a one off. Told me that if it happens again/ he has a temperature to see a GP. Then I remembered that he has this weird hole in his skull which is monitored - picked up in pregnancy. Oops. Have assumed it is irrelevant as monitoring only every 6 mths. He is 6 mths.
