Blepharitis - what eye drops

Anyone got this condition and if so what eye drops do you use. Im looking on Amazon for drops for the condition, but are eye drops virtually all the same?

The optician showed me some in the store, they sell Hycosan mostly, but I dont like the mechanism of how you get the drops out, and they were quite expensive so he said just get something somewhere else.

Or do just any old eye drops help?

They are all different. Some are just soothing, emollient or rehydrating. Some contain active ingredients that will help heal any damage caused by drying. I have dry-eye and use a combination of the two types because whilst the healing ones are effective, they aren't very soothing in the moment.

There are ones with or without preservatives. Single use vials or bottles. Thick or thin. Difficult to squeeze bottles/vials or easier ones. You can use a thick emollient that you squeeze from a tube at bedtime (its fancy petroleum jelly) .

I have to use ones without a preservative and easy to squeeze and after much experimentation have settled on Celluvisc single use for soothing and Oxyal in a little bottle for healing. Oxyal does have a preservative but it evaporates on contact with the eye.

My optician has dry-eye too and uses something entirely different. You have to try a few to see what works.

Hycosan plus , the red sort.

Wash with Optase eye wash -this makes the most difference.

Use heated eye mask daily.

Thanks, yes he sold me the eye mask so I have that, although have already been inconsistent in usage, so thats not good

I already had Hycosan but I dont like the way you get the drops out, I have a disability in my hands which makes this difficult, I will look at some of the others also then and just get something I'll use consistently

Depending on the style of dropper, you can get drop aids to assist you to put the drops in.
There are lots of different types for different shape bottles, and for the different struggles people have.
for example, if the bottle is too hard to squeeze there’s ones that squeeze it for you or even ones that have a cup shape at the top so that you can actually get the liquid in your eye rather than running down your cheek.

Do you have a local eye charity or disability charity near you that can assist?
I work in an eye hospital and we have a member of staff called an ECLO (eye clinic liaison officer) she works in our hospital but is technically employed by an eye charity. After a chat with her or one of our nurses about any problems our patients our having she is able to point them in the right direction for suitable help or get aids to assist patients to go about their daily life with their disabilities or poor visual acuity.
It may be worth asking your optician if they could point you in the direction of someone like her or your local eye charity. I think our ECLO is employed by Bradbury fields. There may be one by you.
Failing that if you explain to you optician why your don’t like the drops (due to the design of the bottle) they may possibly have dropper aids to give to you. - usually reps from pharmaceutical companies hand those things out like sweets if it means that the opticians and DRs prescribe their drops.

Sorry for the long winded answer - Hope you find a solution soon!

Theoloz Duo is what Moorfields recommended as well as Hylo Night ointment at night. You might find the ointment easier to use and sometimes I don’t bother with the drops as well. Theoloz is easier to use than Hycosan, which I found difficult too as I’ve got arthritis in my hands.

I was guided to get brand Blepha.

I messed up and got the drops instead of gel recommendation.
