Could I have broken my foot and not noticed?

Ok, first of all, I will get proper medical advice for this, but that’s going to take a couple of weeks, so I wanted opinions in the meantime.

a couple of years ago we were on holiday, walking barefoot on a pebbled beach, and afterwards my foot was very sore. I assumed it was just a pulled muscle and didn’t think much more about it.

However, 2 years on it’s still giving me quite a lot of pain when I walk longer distances. I’m also convinced there’s a hard lump at the side that wasn’t there before (and there’s no matching one on the other foot). I walked about a mile this morning (having done a longer walk at the weekend) and now my foot has a really sharp pain where the lump is.

Could I have broken it and not noticed at the time? It’s the bone at the outer side of the foot (the little toe side). The pain today is quite sharp and fairly constant. It’s been achy ever since the day I hurt it, but more of a dull pain which felt more muscular.

If it was broken (and I’m guessing has now healed) would they be able to do anything about it?

You don’t break your foot by walking on pebbles. Are you missing some context here, was there a fall or something?

No, just that the beach was those very round pebbles that are hard to walk on. I didn’t do anything that made me think I’d broken it; it’s just that that’s when I first noticed it was sore.

I have a bony avulsion on my left ankle. Basically the tendon has sheared away from the bone, pulling a small chunk with it. It was caused by general wear and tear (ie not an 'injury' / sports etc). I have been walking around on it (on crutches thanks to my useless local NHS) for years. Apparently, they now can't fix it...
I'd ask for an X ray. Good luck x
