Doctors referral for life insurance

Recently applied for life insurance due to birth of first child. I was ultra careful when filling in the application and listed everything. So result is that I look like the most unhealthy person every (not really, but various UTI's, backache in the past, several small things that I no longer have).

So life ins co told me they're asking for a doctors letter. I'm obviously fine with this, but now the doctor has asked me to come in for an appointment to discuss.

Is this normal?? I'm a healthy person, not on medication and no real family history of illness

It's normal. Dh and I changed life assurance policies a couple of years ago, and the new company sent their doctor to see us. She asked a couple of questions about our medical histories, checked our blood pressure and did a saliva test to check we weren't lying about not smoking, and we had to give a urine sample for a blood sugar test (and I think they would have done a diabetes test if that had given cause for concern). So it's probably nothing to worry about.

Thanks Roskva, hopefully it will all go smoothly for me too (am so impatient though, can't get the appointment with the doctor for another 2 weeks!)

If it's just simple term life insurance they are probably asking the doc to confirm what you have told them. In that case, the doc may want to make sure that you know that he/she will be giving your medical details to the insurers. Some docs feel very nervous about releasing medical details (for obvious reasons) and I'd probably feel good if my doctor was scrupulous about my records.

If the life insurance has any other kind of insurance attached (e.g. critical illness insurance) the insurer may have been asking more detailed questions that the doc wants to discuss with you (i.e. simple backache can be flagged as a serious problem for some kinds of disability insurance).
