Should I be worried about nose-bleeds in a nearly 4 yr old?

DS has had a long and dreadful cold, his nose was streaming for at least 10 days. Towards the end of the cold he had a nose-bleed at night while he was asleep. He had another one early this morning which woke him up, about 5 days after the first. Should I worry about this or is it just that the the blood vessels in his nose are a bit weakened from all the sneezing and nose-blowing?

My dd1 has been prone to nosebleeds since she was 9 months old, generally when she picks her nose it will trigger one, also when she is excited about something coming up and also sometimes when she is not well. Probably nothing to worry about.

hi my ds(6) has suffered from them for years, seem to be worse during the winter when we have the heating on. i think they do grow out of them, but they're frightening aren't they?

Dd has them a lot - they go in phases - she will have 4 or 5, then nothing for 2 or 3 weeks, then a few more. The GP said not to worry.

I had these regulary for years as a child. You will find that if your ds still has blocked sinuses then it may be a pressure type reaction .I had them so bad as a child in fact the doctors wanted to cauterise my nose at one point, but i eventually grew out of them.A good way of stopping a nose bleed other than applying pressure is to put ice on the bridge of your nose and forehead and it will stop very quickly.I also found that if my nose bled because i had blown it if after a while i blew it again it stopped(weird i know)Your ds may notice a metallic taste/smell prior to a bleed btw.
Try not to worry though bran

Hi, just spotted your thread. My 6 year old ds has had them for months and months on an off, either triggered through picking or sometimes when he gets too upset. Last week my dh took him to the Ear, Nose and Throat surgery and they cortorised it. Apparently he put a small stick up his nose with some liquid on and that was it. We have had to put an antibiotic cream up his nose (on a fat cotton bud) for a few days and tonight the scab fell off (sorry, sounds gross), it bled a little and apparently that should be it. It didn't hurt him and if it will save all the nose bleeds and tears then its worth it. If it continues I would see your doctor.
