I have been having gallbladder attacks from
November got diagnosed March and put on the emergency list I got a call today to get it removed tomorrow. This seems very quick as I would told about a year I am freaking out anyone any advice?

You’ll be fine, recovery will be easy but watch what you eat for a while. You’re just panicking because it’s come much sooner than you expected but it will be over much sooner too. Good luck!

Better now than wait! I had keyhole surgery to remove mine as an emergency patient after being on an IV for a week. Good luck and absolutely nothing to worry about.

You need to get organised now! Rennies Deflatine, Peppermint tea, painkillers, a pillow for the car on the way home, plain food, a book and phone charger etc. You won't be able to drive for a week or so.

Saying recovery will be easy is not true for all. It should be but there will be pain so don't be a martyr. Most say the gas pain is the worst.

Have you got young DCs?

I paid to have mone removed privately as I couldn't wait as it was negatively impacting my life. Glad you're having it done. Good luck, sure you will be fine.

Mine was at very short notice too. Was told wait lists super long but emergencies done quickly. (I had mine done privately but surgeon was also a NHS doc. Told me I would almost certainly never get to then top of the wait list on the NHS until I became an emergency and that all they ever did was emergencies therefore). Best thing I ever did. Agree with pp, the gas pain was agony for the first 24 hrs, accept all the pain relief you’re offered.

Best thing I ever did. Go for it. I was in and out the same day. No issues since. Good luck.

well for soem reason I didnt feel nay pain afterwards but I did have to have a drain. I dont know why I didnt feel pain, the doctors were bemused by that. my psychologist says I may have dissociated form the pain as he thinks I may have a dissociative disorder of some kind as I suffered a psychotic break some item afterwards.

hexsnidgett · 19/11/2025 08:35

It was ok, and great in the long run. I was pretty sore the first week and weak and tender for longer. My advice is take the painkillers and eat plenty of fibre.
10 years on I can eat what I like, the only thing is when I need to go I need to go!!
