hi have a look at www.jabs.org.uk they will email you a list of clinics that do the jabs or see if you can find a private doc near you they might do them

jellyfingers · 20/05/2008 13:05

We had ours done at Choice healthcare. They are in London if that's any good.

jellyfingers · 20/05/2008 13:36

No probs. We found them very good and they have a Sunday morning clinic in Harley street which we found really good because it meant that we could both go. It is free to park on a Sunday too if you were thinking of driving.

Whooosh · 20/05/2008 14:07

We used Breakspear and they were great....easy to get to too.

jellyfingers · 20/05/2008 14:25

i have just been looking at breakspear. its a hard decision to make. which one do i choose? especially when you don't know anyone else that has gone for the singles route. so its good to see that both of you have found good clinics.

Hi

I had my ds singles at the hospital of st. elizabeth and st. john (in London). All fine.

Don't worry - I remember really fretting about it at the time but I'm very pleased with the service we got.

"GP is no help what so ever"

So your GP didn't want to help you to give your kids a series of under-regulated, under-researched single jabs instead of the licensed, incredibly safe MMR? How unreasonable of him/her . There is no vaccine in the history of time that has been as carefully researched as MMR and there is a huge weight of evidence that it is safe. The same cannot be said of single jabs. It's up to you what you do, of course, but don't expect your GP to help you do something s/he feels is wrong for your kids.

tearinghairout · 22/05/2008 22:21

Hi jellyfingers, you will get people on here who disagree with you about MMR. FWIW jybay, it hasn't been 'proved' to be safe, and there is at least one MNer who wishes she could turn the clock back & NOT give her dch the MMR.

Hope you are successful, jellyfingers.

It is almost impossible to prove a negative but there is an enormous amount of research on mmr showing that it is far safer than other jabs. Just as one example, Japan stopped giving MMR for a while and went back to single jabs because of supply problems with MMR. There was no change at all in the rate of autism diagnosis.

If parents want to give single jabs, that's up to them, but you can hardly expect your GP to help. It would be unethical to do so if - like me - she believes that MMR is much safer and more effective than single jabs.

jybay · 22/05/2008 22:35

"so who made you the authority on what people should with their kids? "

I believe passionately that kids are much safer having MMR than single jabs. I have also seen kids horribly damaged by measles.

I am not telling other people what to do, I am just saying that you cannot expect GPs to help with obtaining single jabs.

thanks for all your replys (good and bad )
i think it is all about choice, MMR is fine if thats what you want to do but i also think you should be able to have the singles aswell. least that way there wouldn't be so many kids not getting their vaccinations.

jellyfingers - I used Breakspear for my DS. It was excellent. I live nowhere near it, but travelled to get to it as had personal recommendations. Friend of friend knows lawyers who worked on this MMR stuff. Some of them had their own kids vaccinated singly at Breakspear so I don't think you can get a better recommendation! However, the parking is crap . Don't hesitate to go there and don't worry about it. They have been doing the singles since MMR was introduced around 20 years ago.

jellyfingers · 24/05/2008 13:00

thanks crokky, i think i will book an appointment on monday. i'v looked for one closer to me (breakspear is about 2 hours away) but the ones i found couldn't do the jabs till august . and i think i'v waited long enough to get this done.
and it does make me feel better reading comments that were positve about the place.
