My son at uni just walked into a metal bar at a gym. He’s just told me and sent photos. He’s hours away. I’m wondering if he needs it looking at? He’s not concerned but I am. He doesn’t have a first aid kit. Hard to tell how bad it is from photos and untrained eye so I’d appreciate advice please.

Some steri tapes, clean and rest.

I fell head first off my bike, had a similar wound, big bump, bloody grazes on my face, but just left my broken bike, walked the rest of the way home, cleaned up with just water and was fine next day.

Just to give some perspective as to how we used to live when students and no mobile phones, now we know how to deal with wounds and can call at any time if gers worse.

He will be fine with the sterile everything but if he was knocked out with the bang needs to get checked. Xxx

If being knocked out, dizzy, sick etc yes, but if just a cut amd bruise, this is normal for minor trauma. Xxx

I really don’t understand why people ask for medical advice from random strangers on the internet. I mean in the first two pages we’ve had it needs glue, stitches or strips. And for all the people thinking he needs stitches, they never stitch wounds lie, that any more.

And your son is at uni, can’t he make his own decisions? (I mean obviously not, but… )

Believe me they don’t all just turn 18 and miraculously know everything. Sometimes they still call mum for advice. Nothing wrong with that!

Nope, clean it up, check he doesn’t feel nauseous and carry on with life.

I asked for advice hoping that someone who had been in a similar situation could advise. Maybe a medic. I didn’t want to waste the NHS ‘s time unless absolutely necessary. It turned out that yes it was the right thing to do. Hopefully this post can help someone else who is in 2 minds. And what’s wrong with my son asking for my help. Not all uni students know what to do in situations like this. He also has Asperger’s which affects decision making. Actually he wasn’t asking what to do he was just showing me what he had done. I really had to push him to go to the hospital and ensure someone went with him.
