Firm, painless lymph nodes

I've had lymph nodes pop up in my armpits. There's one either side. I've no idea why as I'm not ill.

I noticed them 2 weeks ago and they're still there today.

I've not had them before.

Maybe the size of a kidney bean?

I feel fine otherwise but I've just done a quick Google and it's panicked me :/

I'm breastfeeding a toddler, but no issues or mastitis.

I don't shave or use deodorant (a bit hippy, I know).

Has anyone else had this? I'll make a GP appointment, but just want to hear what else this could be, if not the big C

I was just referred for an ultrasound for a small hard lymph node in my neck that’s been there over 3 months now. The scan showed it’s nothing sinister, they think it’s a calcified lymph node. The nurse said it’s very common. Go see your GP and hopefully it’s nothing bad x

Thanks so much @doopdoopdidoop It's nice to hear a reassuring story, as everything on Google paints a scary picture

I'm going to update in case anyone arrives here themselves in the future, worrying about lymph nodes.

After being massive for at least 2 weeks, they've begun to shrunk down over the last few days and are now about the size of little peas.

I'm hoping this means they were just dealing with an infection, but Google does make you freak out if they aren't going down quickly!

Bless you! It could be loads of things! Maybe you don’t know you’ve been fighting an infection, maybe something inflammatory due to pregnancy, try not to worry but if you’re anything like me, you’ll still be worrying! Get seen by the doctor, get it sorted and you can move on! You’re doing the right thing by getting it checked out! And please don’t google, I’ve been told off for googling by more than one doctor! It’s all bloody doom and gloom! X

I've had a raised lymph node behind my ear for years (it gets very big when I'm actually unwell!) I have an 'over active' immune system so my immune response can be triggered by something as small as a spider walking on my skin, but on the upside I do tend to recover from illness and injury pretty quickly.

Icebreakhell · 21/05/2025 22:59

Lymph nodes that are of concern keep enlarging. So the fact they’re shrinking is reassuring. Assume you’re otherwise well, no drenching night sweats, weight loss, fevers or early satiety?

Updating in case anyone reads this, as I didn't find many similar cases online. The lymph nodes have been there for 3 months +. They are about 1cm- one under each armpit. They have been scanned twice, 6 weeks apart, and are just reactive lymph nodes and of no concern. Apparently, sometimes they just stay raised and palpable. I've been told to monitor them, but they may just stay like this.

That’s good. They’re quite common. Glad all was ok.
