Mr Bishop rused into hospital

Today has to be one of the worst days ever. I came home from work, and the front door was open and the TV on, but I couldn't find DH. I phoned round a few mates who sometimes take him out for the day, and thankfully they came round. I found dh collapsed in the bathroom.

I thought he was dead.

Thankfully he wasn't, but it too a 999 call and the paramedics to find out that he was in a diabetic coma.

It was all so awful, it has been the thing that I've worried about most of all in his illness, coming home and finding him dead and I really thought that it had happened.

Amazingly the docs still think that he is well enough to chemo tomorrow and will arrange for us to have oxygen at home, and his o2 sats are poor, probably due to the tumous mass.

christ but this is hard. Thank god I had people with me when it happened, and MIL is visiting. If I had stayed in work for a meeting that I was supposed to go to, I think that he really could have died.

It's good that you have company for the next couple of days, MB.

I'm guessing that the diabetes is one of the more "fixable " things. But scary.

Sending best wishes as always.

Weegiemum · 19/05/2008 22:10

MB - just logged on this evening and saw this. You poor, poor dear. Glad to hear that dh has made a reasonable recovery from this frightening episode. I once came across my DB who is diabetic very close to coma and it is sooo scarey - so much so for you when there is such a horris diagnosis.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you here.

mummylin2495 · 19/05/2008 22:11

ahundredtimes · 19/05/2008 22:13

Is he frightened by what happened too? Did you talk about it once he was stablilized?

it sounds like you are in shock MB. As well you would be my love.

emma1977 · 19/05/2008 22:13

Bloody hell- Your nerves must still be jangling.

I hope your both coping OK now back home. Have a stiff drink tonight and I hope tomorrow goes well with the chemo.

Will be thinking of you.

ahundredtimes · 19/05/2008 22:13

There's something very abrupt about it isn't there too.

Elibean · 19/05/2008 22:14

O god MB what a horrible horrible shock. Wishing Mr MB the best of luck with chemo tomorrow, and wishing you a gentle recovery from shock and fear, and a peaceful night.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 19/05/2008 22:15

fuck me

100x is speaking sense - take your foot off the peddal

I know that you know it is going to happen, but sometimes that doesn't make it any easier when you think it actually has

One day at a time, keep breathing

SaggyOldBagpuss · 19/05/2008 22:17

Love to you both xx

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/05/2008 22:21

No reason at all why you would have diagnosed a hypo - you jumped to a very natural (if terrifying) conclusion. Knowing lots about science doesn't make you a paramedic y'know.

And it doesn't matter that you yelled the place down, you still dealt with it. And he's OK.

Well-timed visit from MIL.

choccypig · 19/05/2008 22:21

Virtual hugs to you both.

bossybritches · 19/05/2008 22:25

Bloody awful shock for you all- glad it's not stopped them planning the treatment.

Hope you all get a better nights sleep tonight.

onlyjoking9329 · 19/05/2008 22:26

robinpud · 19/05/2008 22:32

What a horrible thing for you both MB, but so glad he is back at home with you now and that the kids weren't with you when you came home initally. Take care.

Blandmum · 19/05/2008 22:34

No he isn't home, he is still in the hospital. They have kept him in for observations. I'm hoping that he will come home tomorrow after he has the chemo

lackaDAISYcal · 19/05/2008 22:40

I'm glad he's OK, and hope he can have his chemo tomorrow as planned. I can only imagine the shock though

thinking of you both.

Piffle · 19/05/2008 22:42

Oh mb what an awful shock that must have been. Hope tomorrow brings a less harrowing day.
hope mr mb has a comfy night and that chemo is not too ghastly.
wow you're going through so much, your bloody courage is amazing.

hotcrossbunny · 19/05/2008 22:42

I've read many of your threads, but not posted before.

What an awful awful shock for you and for Mr B I bet you are still shaking now.... Glad your MIL is there, hope she is being useful eg strong sweet tea, brandy etc etc

Hope chemo goes as planned if Mr B is up to it. As usual, 100x is talking sense, the best help you can be is to look after yourself.

Love xxx

cluttercup · 19/05/2008 22:44
