MRI Results - How long to get results - feeling scared

Hi everyone.
I had an MRI scan of my head along with orbit to check my eyes on the 21/4/25.
long story short I seemed to develop a feeling of heaviness in my left side of my face back in November and developed a slight squint. The eye clinic at the hospital said it was stress related.
fast forward to know and I am going through what is possibly the loneliest, most stressful time of my life as I am seperating my husband and he has been really really unkind. I hit the wall about a month ago and my mental health was awful and was overwhelmed and crippled with anxiety….
i had an MRI just to rule anything out but am currently petrified that there is going to be something seriously wrong. I had a CT scan about a month ago aswell and that was clear. However the symptoms I feel in my face I can’t work out whether it is anxiety / stress!!
is there anyone out there that can reassure me that no news is good news? I’m so scared of going it alone and then being given a diagnosis of something awful 😥
Any advice or reassurance is very welcome …

I had numbness in my left side on and off for a while but was really in a very bad way with anxiety and ended up with the crisis team…everybody is telling me it’s going to stress related..I just can’t get it out of my head

Can you go back to your GP and ask for something for the anxiety, or contact the consultant and explain the anxiety this is causing?

I have done. I’m now on medication for the anxiety aswell.

Quickly if there is a problem if you don't hear for a while it's unlikely to be anything significant. Iv had a couple of brain bleeds was told straight away. I had enlarged muscles and inflammation behind my eyes in an orbit scan was told in an outpatient appointment about 4 weeks later.

Chimpannazee · 15/05/2025 12:33

And was this something serious @feelingbleh ?
I’ve had a scan with orbit too?

Respectfully I don’t think this is helping. You’ve been told by multiple people that it’s likely not serious if it’s taken this long to come back, but you’re still convinced it’s MS.

No i was just given eye drops and they said its likely thyroid eye disease which isn't life threatening or dangerous in anyway just gives you dry eye and eye pain.

They are triaged, so if there is something serious a flag is raised very quickly. If deemed to be non serious or nothing, it waits in a pile for scrutiny and reporting.

Thankyou everyone for commenting. I know I’ve just got to be patient x

I had an MRI for persistent facial numbness, and it took about 6 weeks for my results to come back. They were completely fine, and it was anxiety related. If I'm in a stressful situation the entire side of my face can be tingly and numb in seconds. The body works in strange ways. I no longer worry about it.

From recent experience OP, the NHS can, and does, move with lightening speed if anything sinister is suspected.

You need to find something that will calm your central nervous system as you're in overdrive, understandably.

I know people who have hugged a large squishy cuddly toy, or sprayed a nice scent on their hand to sniff. It doesn't have to be the bubble bath, hot chocolate or fluffy pyjamas- whatever might work for you and is minimal effort.

I had to go for emergency surgery to have my appendix out on nye. A week after being discharged I got a letter asking me to go for a mrcp scan 2 weeks later. I had my scan on Monday 19/01/26 just waiting on the results, really worried as got my scan date so quick
