Dental help please - 3 fillings and all fallen out

I am off to the dentist tomorrow due to a filling falling out again and leaving a very sharp broken tooth. This will be the 4th time I will have a filling put in the same tooth.in less than a year. Any ideas why they aren't 'sticking' ?

(I am super careful with what I eat - nothing crunchy and try to eat on the other side as I am really scared of dentists and do not want to go again!)

I had this and ended up with a crown

I've had the same issue; I have an appointment next week but I think I'll be in line for a crown too.

Thank you for replying. Does it hurt having a crown? I am not good with dentists

For a crown you have to have root canal but they will inject anaesthetic first , it’s not painful per say but does take a fair while

Thank you - I think that is why the dentist went for a filling first - I am rubbish at keeping my mouth open for a long time and very scared

you do not necessarily need root canal to get a crown - I didn't. You need root canal if the pulp is infected or damaged but if the tooth is broken beyond a filling but the pulp is ok, then you just get a crown or indeed a ceramic onlay if a full crown is not required. They are expensive though if private. I had a ceramic onlay last month £945 but it looks great and cannot tell unlike a crown. Crowns privately around here SE seem to start at £800. Crowns need 2 visits, 1 to prepare and put on a temporary crown on then a second 2 weeks later to fit the crown itself. A ceramic onlay is 1 appointment around 90 mins and they prepare, measure and fit is all on the spot.
Both will require anaesthetic.

Where in your mouth is it? Front or back?

I’ve just had a side front tooth crown, no root canal work needed. They’d tried to do white filling a couple of times like you but they kept coming off. I just need a jab for the first appointment when they were filing my tooth down so the crown will fit

As PPs said they can be expensive starting at £320 NHS up to £1k

i went for NHS but it looked absolutely awful at the top where the metal was. Due to my high smile line (which means a gummy smile) I was very very fortunate to get a zirconia crown as the lab said a porcelain one wouldn’t be suitable due to my bite

Thanks everyone ! The dentist has tried another filling - I heard him say something about a number 9 (?) Let's see how we go with this one. Thank you for sharing your teeth stories, it has been really useful.
