DD’s tooth (already fallen out) spontaneously broke in half

DD12 had a tooth fall out last night, looks like a molar. She put it on the windowsill as the Tooth Fairy retired last year. I’m working next to the window and hear a pop, look over and the tooth has spontaneously split in half. Has some demonic portal opened or is there some science to explain this? Google search only brings up broken teeth still in the gums.

I saved a few of my DD's teeth. I actually have no idea whyConfused. Anyway, one of them has split in half. Apparently it can happen as the tooth dries out. In the mouth they are constantly moist.

I think the Tooth Fairy is sending you a message that she shouldn't have been retired yet.

Does she grind or clench her teeth in her sleep? I had a molar split in half from clenching. Might be worth keeping an eye on/ mentioning it to your dentist at the next check up.

The Tooth Devil has been unleashed upon our mortal world.

Should have worked this out myself, will heed this message immediately.

Sound science (and a relief to hear I’m not alone) so thank you, but I prefer the “retired the tooth fairy too early” explanation.
