Hip replacement

I've just had a very early hip replacement, it was a horrible mess apparently. The surgeon said it was amongst the top 10 of bad hips.
He put an uncemented hip in, apparently it knits with new bone growth so lasts longer. I hope so becsuse it's bloody painful.
I'm just worried how it degenerated like this with osteoarthritis at my age (63).
Today my leg is massively swollen. The consultant says this is normal.
Has anyone else had an early hip replacement?

My mum had one a couple of years ago aged 60 ish. Had had hip problems since she was about 35. She feels like a new woman! I hope you feel the same eventually.

My grandad just had a new hip at 93, surprised they’d do it one someone that old tbh!

Take it easy!

Yes I had one in my early 50s on one side (the other side was fine), no idea why I needed an early hip replacement.

It has really improved my life. I'm completely mobile again and can walk miles. Was finding walking very painful before.

My other hip is still fine - its a bit of a mystery why one hip was so much worse than the other but I'm grateful I feel so much better now and I returned to work after 6 weeks. It is normal to get things like swelling or bleeding in the first week or so after the operation.

Sorry to hijack the thread but DH is having a hip replacement in a couple of weeks (he's 48 ) and it is due to arthritis which is passed down in his family.
What would have been/was helpful for all of your recoveries?
I'm trying to think of things that will make it easier for him.

An en suite loo would have been useful in the early days of my recovery but I don't suppose you can organise one of those in a couple of weeks 😂

If you don't have one don't worry, we muddled through. What was most helpful to me was my husband taking some time off work the first week I was home, to help me with things like taking a shower. Plus I was on strong painkillers so was sleeping a lot - it was good he was around a lot to keep the household running and to make me lots of drinks and light snacks etc.

I had a hip replacement at about 50 - my recovery wasn't too bad. We went on holiday abroad 6 weeks after my op and I was walking almost normally by then. No one wants to have a hip operation at a relatively young age but I do think it probably makes recovery easier.

The hospital will tell him certain items that are useful like a raised toilet seat and a reacher to help with picking up items from the floor.
