Has anyone husband ever had night sweats that have turned out to be something less serious??

I'm worried about my husband, he's 44 and came down with a headache a few weeks ago, he had pain behind his eyes was very tired & spent a whole day in bed and has since had a mild on and off fever which seems to have gone now but is continuing to have night sweats, they aren't quite as severe as they were (soaking through the sheets) but he's still clammy asks gets damp in the night which wakes him up.
Google always comes up with cancer so it's very concerning.
He had a full blood count done, his white cells and basophils are elevated but not super high, his iron looks normal so they're doing a fit test to check for blood in his stool and more bloods next week to see if his white cells come back down.
I'm really worried, any advice or words of comfort would be greatly appreciated

Did they also check thyroid and early morning cortisol?
Night sweats can be awful with both issues iirc. I hope you get answers soon.

Could be Covid

My partner has those symptoms and currently has Covid

Bluebluesky1234 · 09/05/2025 03:18

I had occasional fever , feeling really unwell and absolutely awful nightsweats. When I walked it felt like I was going to collapse. It turned out to be pneumonia which landed me in hospital for a few days. I think the Dr's told me it was due to a viral infection.

AliBaliBee1234 · 09/05/2025 06:31

White cells can be elevated due to infection. He doesn't have pain?

This happened to me and it was a dental infection

It’s so nuts seeing things still being put down to Covid all the time on here 🤯

Funnily enough, I know a couple of people who have been really poorly with covid recently, so it isn't unreasonable to suggest it.

Gyozas · 09/05/2025 07:05

Google will take you straight to blood cancer. Did they check protein levels? It is likely a viral infection.

I’m not saying it is, though I don’t know anyone who tests anymore so no one would know now, I was merely remarking as it’s a strange flashback to a time when literally every comment was “it could be covid”.

How do you know? Op don’t get medical advice off here they say everything is either perimenopause or Covid.

Im sorry for your DH, im going through the same checks right now, just take things stage by stage, try not to google.

Why is it nuts?

These are literally the symptoms my parter is having WITH Covid

Well we have tested the last few days

I know plenty of people who still test

OP… I really hope it is due to some kind of infection and your husband gets better soon

GingerLiberalFeminist · 09/05/2025 11:27

My DH had it for a week with covid. Bed was grim!

My ex had it all the time - but he was a heavy weed smoker.

It can be a med side effect.

🤞 for you

SeaToSki · 09/05/2025 11:28

Has he travelled anywhere recently or been around someone who has travelled somewhere that has TB active in the population.

UnderTheCover · 09/05/2025 11:30

These are classic symptoms of tick-bite fever. Has he travelled of been in the wild?

OutToLunchBackSoon · 09/05/2025 11:33

I worked with a woman who's partner was having night sweats. I think he was about 50-55 though so a bit older. He was also a smoker. It was lung cancer and the poor fellow died about a year later.

Your husband is younger though and if not a smoker unlikely to be that.

Sorry didn't know whether to post that or not as it's not likely to reassure you but then again I'd rather you asked to doctor to make sure it's not that just to be on the safe side.

I hope you get good news. There is loads of things it could be and the chance of it being cancer I would say is very small.

Nametobechanged · 09/05/2025 11:37

My ExH had nightly drenching night sweats for months which turned out to be caused by nothing at all. He had all the tests.

gertrudebiggles · 09/05/2025 11:39

My DH had these exact signs with covid. I had to sleep in the other bed as it was grim for a couple of weeks.

anonymous98 · 10/05/2025 00:10

Does he take any medication? I had night sweats for a few weeks when I first started taking an antidepressant which was a bit unsettling.

Almostwelsh · 10/05/2025 00:15

I had that in my 40s and it turned out to be glandular fever.

My DH had exactly these symptoms with COVID. He had it really bad and it lasted over a month.

Junime · 12/05/2025 16:40

His fit test was negative thankfully but he's really worried it's leukemia, his follow up bloods showed his basophils were up and red cells down a little more than the previous week so they've ordered more bloods & an endoscopy .
The night sweats have eased off now & he doesn't really have any other symptoms aside from being tired but we have young kids so that could be explained easily, he did smoke when he was younger so I am concerned about the endoscopy

We did wonder if it could be COVID but we didn't test for it

He takes a variety of vitamins & has been fasting till our evening meal most days, he's lost almost 2stone since Christmas and his blood pressure is the best it's ever been . I must note he has been very deliberately been trying to lose weight I've also lost a stone doing something similar

No signs of autoimmune disease

The tiredness could be due to only eating one meal a day

Is he drinking enough water?
