Congenital cataract

I’m reaching out as a parent looking for some hope and perspective. My 15-month-old daughter has just been diagnosed with a congenital cataract in one eye and will be having surgery soon, followed by glasses and patching.

I’ve been trying to find real stories from people who went through this as babies and are now living life as adults — how your vision turned out, how you managed glasses/contacts/patching, and what daily life is like now.

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear:
Did you have an intraocular lens (IOL) implanted?Do you still need glasses or contacts?
If your vision affected anything you’ve wanted to do — like driving, sports, or even flying?
What was childhood like, and how do you feel about your vision now?

I’d be so grateful to hear any part of your experience. It would mean a lot to hear from someone who’s been through this and come out the other side.

Not myself but my son has a congenital cataract, I noticed it when he was a baby and he’s now a teenager.

He did not have surgery but he had regular patching and wears glasses now.
