Dentistry advice (possible nerve damage)

Wondering if anyone can advise,

Went to the dentist 3 weeks ago had a temporary crown put on literally a week later it broke off. attended the dentist on Monday, they said the clinic lost my impression and had to do another. She couldn’t get the other half of the temp off so had to use the drill. She gave me a bit of local just enough to numb the gum but not my entire face.

Told her I was in pain for her to tell me to “bare with her” while she was drilling. She did the impression and then said I needed another temp until the crown was ready. The dental nurse said she mixed it up wrong but the dentist said she was using it regardless. My temp is literally yellow.

Since Tuesday I’ve noticed my lip and tongue on that side has been tingly, and my sense of taste is different. when I pout my lip literally doesn’t move but when I smile it does. When I drink it drops out on that side like I’ve had a stroke! Using mouthwash is a nightmare because it comes out. Even talking is an effort because I can feel the difference.

dentist is now not open until Tuesday because of the bank holiday. Is there anything they can actually do or is it a case of just riding it out?

This does not sound like a dental related problem. It sounds more like Bells Palsy or several other problems. You should ring 111 and get advice and be seen by someone quickly as if it is Bells Palsy you will need steroids quickly. Ring 111 as a matter of urgency

@Lollygaggle I know it’s not Bell’s palsy as I can move the rest of my face on that side and there is no drooping. I think she may have injected near the facial nerve because it only came about after the appointment. It’s only the corner of my mouth on the left side and the left side of my tongue

If it was a lower back tooth the whole point of the injection is to inject very close to the ID branch of the trigeminal nerve. Occaisionally you get it spot on and inject on top of the nerve, bruising it. You may get a numb side of the tongue and lip immediately after the injection wears off that lasts a long time. This numbness resolves in virtually everyone starting off as a tingling then gradual return of sensation.

If it is tingling that is a good sign sensation is returning. This loss of sensation for a while is a known complication of this type of block.
