Big lump in neck

Has anyone had one? I am 37 with no health problems.

GP says it doesn’t need testing and to just ‘watch and wait’. In mirror it looks near where the thyroid is on the left. Does not hurt when I touch it but I am having some kind of radiating pain on hiccuping and coughing in the mid neck area. does t seem to be a bother but sometimes feels like a finger is pressing on my windpipe every now and then.

I wonder what on earth it could be? Does it sound like anything anyone else on here has had?

I'd go back to the GP and ask to be referred on the 2 week pathway.

I’m not sure I can as the gp said it’s nothing to worry about.

im not saying im not concerned just wondering if anyone thinks it rings a bell.

Many thanks.

I had a lump on my neck - the GP told me the same. It is standard procedure to watch and wait so no point going back before time unless things change in that time.

I put a gently warmed compress on it and massaged it lightly - it did go away but obviously might have done that on its own. Greatly relieved of course.

My BIL had one on his neck for years but refused to see a GP - eventually it got infected and he had to have it (painfully!) treated.

It sounds like it could be a goitre. I had one when I was 38. They tried to drain fluid from it but it just filled up again so they removed it along with half my thyroid. I wasn't in any pain at all with it and it turned out to be the size of a golf ball when they took it out! But it was benign so no further action except needing thyroxine. I don't know how the GP can know it doesn't need action. I would certainly go back if it gets bigger or the pain continues.
