Good morning,

I wondered if anyone has experience of outcomes post bunion surgery please.
The surgery went well, I'm glad I had it done as pain has gone. My foot will be stiff and little swollen after a hike or a long day on my feet. I give it a good massage and the stiffness lessens

I am 11 months post surgery and the reduced big toe flexibility is noticeable.

Can I improve this with physio this long after surgery or is this "it"?

It's noticeable when I do planks in yoga and also I am not rolling my toe when wearing flip flops.

I had 3 or 4 sessions of physio in the 8-14 weeks post surgery and will hands up admit I could have done more exercises at home ..especially after the 16 mark.

Basically: should I double down and do the physio again or it is too late now 11 months have passed.

Thank you!

Depends what procedure you've had for your bunion.

Arthrodesis - it definitely wont help doing any physiotherapy.

Any form of osteotomy - it may help, but how much will depend on multiple factors.

Glad you've got a pain-free outcome, about 15% of people still have significant issues after bunion surgery.

Thank you, it was a scarf osteotomy and some soft tissue work between the first two toes. Physio won't do any harm I suppose..I just wondered why might be achievable...supposedly I have very flexible ones according to the physiotherapist I saw initially.
