Ongoing ankle/foot weakness

I had a herniated disc in my spine back in January which didn't cause much back pain but left me with relatively severe foot drop/leg weakness and numbness. I got given some exercises to do and was reviewed fairly often by physio and neurosurgery and the foot drop is improving gradually (but not the numbness).
The thing is, I now keep going over on my ankle, almost daily and it always seems to be weak, stiff, swollen etc. I've also developed pain in my heel which I think is plantar fasicitis based on my googling. I do have hypermobile joints, plus axial spondyloarthritis so it's possibly a combination of things.
Has anyone got any words of wisdom?! I've been given a few things to do for strength and balance by the physio and will ask advice when I see them next but in the meantime I'm just sick of twisting my ankle constantly and limping around with heel pain.

I have always fallen off my ankle a lot.

Wearing soft ankle boots whenever you go out with an insole helps with ankle giving way plus I used to use a stick on my good side.

If you do buy boots make sure you take them off indoors as it makes the PF worse if you don't .

Ice packs with a raised ankle on a cushion normally got mine better until it goes again!

My PF gets worse if I walk on my toes on my bad side to ease hip , back etc so it may also be worth looking at your gait . I think they recommend the Alexander technique.

Thank you for the suggestions - I do have plenty of ankle boots so will try something more supportive, and remember to ice and elevate.
I think it must be connected to my gait as it all really ramped up when I developed the foot drop, and I'm definitely not walking in a balanced way as my bad foot doesn't flex "normally". It sounds pathetic but I just really worry that I'll never get back to my old self! I was running and doing CrossFit before all this and now I just feel like I'm a wobbly old lady 🤣
