Angulated broken collarbone - advice needed

My daughter broke her collarbone a couple of days ago. She was seen by minor injuries and given a sling to wear and an appointment at fracture clinic in two weeks. She swims competitively and I am worried about the bone not healing properly (due to the degree of angulation) and impacting this. Can anyone tell me if the bone will straighten while she is wearing the sling or if it needs further intervention? Thank you.

Forgot to add I have attached a photo of the x-ray, just waiting for it to be reviewed.

She may well need surgery, but they will discuss that at your appointment.

DC had same break and plays an arm heavy sport.
No further intervention was needed, we were given advice in fracture clinic on rest and then re introduction of arm rotation, which was initially followed and then ignored because DC said it felt fine (I mean, how could a Dr possibly know better than a teenager about this kind of thing 🙄).
Anyway, it was all fine.

Thank you, that’s good to know. Was your DC’s break as angulated as my DD’s? How long did it take them to fully return to their sport?

Possibly slightly less, but not much.

After 4-6 weeks he was back at his sport, in a small way, without full arm rotation, but still using it. Took another 4-6 weeks to get back to it fully, but that was done with a build up of increased time playing, and as I previously said, my DC pretty much ignored the advice once they felt ok around the 6 week mark.

I would have preferred he had a longer rest personally, as like you, I worried about the break not setting correctly.
