Had eczema on my foot for months. I have pompholyx triggered by allergy. I was exposed months ago and it triggered a flare on my foot and hands. It would not settle with my normal home self help and the foot eczema in particular was way worse than normal and looked quite different to normal flares.

Saw GP and now been on steroid ointment for about 2 months and the foot eczema is getting worse if anything. It keeps looking like it is getting better then worsens. Rebooked an appt with GP today but can’t see him for 2 weeks and have now noticed it has spread. Is hot to touch and is burning. Had burning before with eczema so could just be that but with it not responding to steroids am wondering if something else going on. Pics of foot attached.

Thank you

Sounds infected to me if it’s burning. Are you using the steroid religiously? I’m on a JAK INHIBITOR but steroids are still the only thing that clears it fully

Yes religiously except for a break because the doctors messed up the repeat prescription 4 times!!! But I’ve been applying it for over 3 weeks since that happened. It’s much better today (ie still there but less red) but it keeps doing that and I think it’s improving and then it flares up again.

Also you really need to fight to get referred to a derm. Tell them it’s affecting your sleep or your sex life and it knocks your EASI score higher so they can refer. God knows why those are more important than ‘I want to rip my flesh off due to itching’ but apparently they are.

Thank you. Yes, you are right. I have had to learn in the last decade or since developing chronic illness that you need to do your own research, be your own advocate and pick your doctors to get barely adequate healthcare! So yes you need to tick their boxes to get what you need!!

My DD (now 6yo) had fairly bad eczema. We tried everything. Then we went for a sea swim & turns out this is the only thing that actually helps & heals the skin nicely. No idea how & why exactly bit it does wonders for her.

Hi, I tried everything but nothing worked but now I am so happy because I found the cure with three simple things: aloe Vera plant, Vaseline and a plaster.
Just cut a little bit of the plant and massage it with it let it dry and do it again 3 or 4 times after put Vaseline and the plaster.
i am doing it twice a day for a week now and the results are amazing and I thought I must share it with others that have the same problem

Ask for a dermatology referral. GPs are crap with eczema. Not their fault but they’re following a one size fits all pathway and eczema is rarely the same person to person.

Ive found soaking my eczema in extremely salty water - like a bath with cups of Dead Sea salt - works for me. Weirdly. Better even than biologics.

It’s the same for me. Swimming in the sea makes my eczema go away for a couple of weeks. Only thing that works.

I have this same eczcema steroid cream never worked for me. Socks with moisturiser all the time. No fragrance. Stop all fabric softener and only use. Tiny bit of washing liquid. Liquid better than powder and definitely no pods. Use non bio. Don’t scratch it only spreads it. Tbh try not to touch it at all. I used to wear socks in the shower to stop my feet touching the soap. Took a few months but it got so much better and hasn’t come back the same since.
