Spotting after intercourse

Potential trigger warning - Looking for a bit of advice/any similar situations.

In decemeber 2023 I started light pink spotting after sex and then found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks later, I miscarried but the bleeding continued after intercourse. In the February 2024 I had a smear test and was tested for infections and had a physical exam and was told everything looked healthy and everything came back clear but was referred to gynaecology.

May 2024 I had another miscarriage and asked the doctors to add this on to my referral so I could potentially be seen quicker so they sent a letter explaining.

July 2024 found out I was pregnant again and I now have a healthy 8 week old baby after a very high risk problematic pregnancy due to static growth

I was under the impression my appointment for gynae was this June until I had a phone call today to say the appointment was actually for the recurrent miscarriage clinic and it was cancelled as I now had a baby. I explained that my referral still stands as I’m still experiences spotting everytime I have intercourse. The lady investigated and said I’d been kicked off the gynae list and sent to the miscarriage clinic and someone along the way has obviously messed up and not read my referral properly and I should have been put under the two week rule back in feb 2024 and I’ve been offered me an urgent appointment for tomorrow. She was disgusted when I explained the doctor told me it was nothing as I was only 24 with normal regular periods and not old enough for it to be anything more sinister.

I’m now really concerned that something is really wrong and can’t help thinking the worse especially because I have a little 8 week old baby that needs looking after. My partner has tried to reassure me that due to being scanned weekly during my pregnancy something would have been picked up. I suppose I’m just looking for similar situations or reassurance!

Sorry for the long post I’m just getting lost in my own thoughts!

I had spotting after intercourse for years and had all kinds of investigations for it. It turned out to be a combination of hormonal fluctuations, having a low cervix, and cervical ectropion, a harmless condition in which delicate cells that normally line the inside of the cervix appear on the outside, making it prone to bleeding when touched or prodded (when having intercourse and during smears).

I hope that in your case it is something similarly benign but you have my sympathies as it’s not only worrying but very inconvenient!

I’ve been told I have high up cervix and a tilted womb so I was wondering if that would make it harder to see a cervical polyp or an ectropion. During my smear when they did an examination she said everything looked healthy so I’d assume you’d be able to see anything like that. What shall I expect at my appointment tomorrow?

the strange thing is I spot after sex, and I did after my smear test but whilst being induced I didn’t bleed during any of the examinations or pessarys!

I used to bleed after sex and it was a cervical ectropian. Hope your appointment goes OK tomorrow x
