Loose bowels every night

My daughter who is nearly 9 keeps having loose sloppy Bowles and is very windy. This is happening every night around 9pm and goes on for nearly an hour with around 40 mins with about 3 episodes. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now pretty much every night. Could this be an allergy or anything else? She hasn’t had anything any different. I think I may need a chat with a doctor. I am very concerned due to the time and loosing sleep as she doesn’t sleep in either.

Do a food diary as she could have an allergy.
Try probiotics.
Lots of water and rehydration

Coeliac? Ask Dr for a test but make sure she is eating gluten every day.

Dh is like that if he has dairy. Agree with @Maitri108 re the food diary.

I went to the doctors and they asked for a sample. It’s still going on now but she has a stomach pain with it. The doctor said go easy on dairy until results come back. I am getting very concerned now as it’s been so long. Last night 7 times and tonight 5 in just over an hour. She is so fed up and upset. I don’t know what to do.

Poor kid - she shouldn't have to put up with this. Can you go back to your dr and stress how severe these symptoms are?

FlakyBrickTiger · 27/04/2025 22:19

She is so fed up, we have had it again tonight and she is back at school tomorrow where she is going to be tired after having this for so many nights. I am going to call the GP tomorrow as she asked me “mommy how are we going to fix this?” I feel so sorry for her because I don’t know the answer.

I’ve had this for years but in the mornings. The only times my poos were regularly solid were when I was pregnant and when I was on a low carb diet. I’ve mentioned it to doctors but they aren’t concerned as it’s normal for me and just told me to take a Imodium every day.
