Dentist drama

Hi. Need advice , ideally from a professional.

I'm 38, been to the dentist few times in my 20s, few fillings put in. No problems since. Went for a checkup ,no pain 2months ago , dentist did an xray and said two fillings need redoing as can see they've lost the seal ( probably not the correct term sorry). Had them both redone on the same day. It's been 2weeks since and one side is impossible to bite on. Painful and sensitive to cold. Doesn't hurt otherwise. Went back for advice, had an xray again and was told I'll need a root canal now.
My questions are:

  1. Any chance the pain will settle with time?
  2. Could dentist be at fault and not telling me they've drilled too low and damaged my tooth?
  3. Should I see same dentist or go private instead? :/

Visit took literally 20min for all prep, injection and fillings on both. Felt really rushed.
Any other advice welcome.

Definitely go private if you can afford it, you will receive better quality work and somehow more empathy and understanding from your dentist.

if a root canal is recommended you should consider getting it done, it’s not painful just long….again a private dentist will look after you with more empathy.

From someone who has had this exact issue , my dentist was honest with me and said the filling went too deep and hit the nerve . I had the sort of pain you are describing for about 3 weeks while I waited to see if it settled. It didn’t and then the nerve started to die , which was the deciding factor to go ahead with the root canal as the pain was something else .
It also got infected whilst waiting for the surgery. My dentist recommended a private endodentist ( not just going private, but an actual specialist) , cost was £1300. This is just the root canal , it will still need a crown or top filling which is about the same price if I go for a crown. The endodentist has more specialised tools, uses a mouth dam to prevent infection and has way more time , not to mention he was a specialist just in root canals .
Mine was deemed successful, however I was in pain for a good two months still afterwards and it’s not perfect now , so I’m having a check next month to see if we go ahead with the cap.
I hope yours is an easier ride than mine has been .

Great , thanks for your replies.
I've been going to private dentist in Poland , cheaper than UK and very thorough . Have family there so usually visit then and do my check ups there.
I'm annoyed with myself I gave in and went for free dental in UK (on maternity)... should've done it when in PL next. If you're saying it'll be around 1300 for root canal private I can probably book flights and cover dentist cost for half of that :/
