Sudden dry mouth

I'm not even sure if this very minor problem should be under health rather than food, but here goes anyway!

Sometimes (once a year or so) when I am eating something, I find that my mouth starts to go very dry. All the saliva starts to dry up, as if I had stuffed paper towels into it, or eaten a tablespoon of flour.

The first time this happened was about 15 years ago when I was eating a very strong French cheese. At the time I put it down to the cheese being full of bacteria or something.

The second time I was eating a burger in a bar. I remember the meat felt a bit dense but it was otherwise unremarkable.

This has continued, very infrequently as I mentioned, until today, with a variety of foods. This week it happened with some 82%-cocoa plain chocolate from Lidl (I have never had it with any form of chocolate before). I made the chocolate into a drink and there was no problem, so I don't think it's an allergic reaction to an ingredient, and I don't have any food intolerances that I can think of.

Does anyone else get this? Or have any idea what could be causing it? I asked ChatGPT and it had only very vague ideas, which didn't seem to match my experiences. I would put it down to randomness, except that some (but not all of the time) when I get it, DP gets it too.

If it’s happening more and more frequently it may be Sjögren’s syndrome - which is common particularly In menopausal women due to the decline in oestrogen. It’s an autoimmune condition. I have it alongside many others.
