Embarrassing issue but I have a partially erupted lower wisdom tooth. Mentioned it to the dentist but they said it’s not a concern because it’s not impacted or infected so no reason to get it removed. Never had pain, swelling or anything but it smells like plaque if I touch it with a finger :(
My gum health is otherwise good because I floss daily, as well as use a waterpik, and see the hygienist every six months.
It’s impossible for me to fully clean the lower wisdom tooth because as it’s partially erupted the gum is kind of ‘loose’ around it if that makes sense? Water pik or electric toothbrush is not cutting it!
Plaque is building underneath in the loose part of the gum. I don’t know if it’s bad to do this but the only way I can get rid of the yellowish plaque is to get some tweezers and lightly push down next to the wisdom tooth (doesn’t hurt because the gum is not ‘tight’ like normal teeth here).
What else can I do, should I find another dentist willing to remove it?
How is it socially acceptable to leave the wisdom tooth if it is collecting plaque and smelling?
