Question about resting heart rate

I only started tracking with a smart watch about 6 months ago.

I’m just questioning if a really bad virus and stress can affect heart rate. It’s gone up quite a lot over the last 6 weeks since I was ill. I’m questioning purely as I’m also on thyroxine and know it can be a sign of too much, though I’m not noticing other symptoms. So don’t know whether to mention to gp - I’ve a follow up appointment soon, for b12/ folate investigations due to lots of tingling. (This has worsened in the last two weeks too.)

if it’s stress or post viral something I’m just going to look at good exercise, breathing and continuing recovery.

Take it manually and compare, sometimes they can be off, but yes stress and illness can affect heart rate. Tightness of the band, heat, sweat/water, body fat etc can all cause inaccurate readings.

See if your surgery will also check vitamin D (many don’t).
low ferritin, low B12 & low Vitamin D all go hand in hand with hypothyroidism. Also see if you can get your blood test readings and the lab reference ranges.
B12 levels ranges are still pretty low in comparison to other countries and you can still be symptomatic towards the bottom 1/3 of the normal’ range.
Ferritin is also marked ‘normal’ quite low and low ferritin can lead to a rapid pulse. Nice guidelines say to treat under 30, but it often isn’t. It needs to be above 70 for healthy hair growth, but I’ve been left without treatment at just 20.

Thanks. Vit d was recently tested and was good. I take a spray.

Ferritin had been good at 80 iirc last year but dropped to 50 i think as I’d started the taking folate, which at the time was really low though not deficient. I started taking iron again. B12 also dropped at the same time though still middle range, but I’m not taking any now as I want to discuss ruling out more issues there before I move forward keeping all higher simply because I’ve got hypothyroidism. I’m going to ask for monitoring. They ruled out celiac and diabetes.

I’ve had years of wavering b12 symptoms and they’ve often tested but have also always taken a complex so I’m not sure if I’ve been hiding more issues. In the last few years I switched to sublinguals but stopped all supplements except vit d in 2023 after breast cancer. However, I think I clearly need to take them.

the higher heart rate seems constant since the virus

My Son has a fancy smart watch and it tells him when he's not 100% and is nearly always right when he's ill or hasn’t slept well. It’s a Garmin not sure what it says but he will tell me my watch said i wasn't on top form!

I can even feel the heart rate is higher. I can hear it pounding in my ears when I’ve not done much. Watch has been delighted as I’ve cracked my exercise goals through just walking around the house 🤣

I would be surprised if I was hyper though as don’t have other symptoms. if it’s still going on when I see the gp I might mention it.

I’ve had so many extra symptoms for so long now they do appear to test all that at the drop of a hat.
