Had a pelvic ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago. Had been having symptoms that were a bit worrying so blood tests and ultrasound were arranged.

Results of ultrasound are overall fine, though there's bilocular cyst on left ovary. The GP said she will refer me on the 2 week pathway just to be on the safe side, which is fine, but am just wondering what else they will be able to do in the way of other tests? The ultrasound was abdominal and intravaginal.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful for any insight!

Sorry for typo in title - no idea how to edit!

When I was on the 2 week pathway 5 years ago for suspected ovarian cancer I had a CT scan with contrast.
I had already had an internal and external ultrasound scan and a MRI scan which showed the mass

Thank you, @fudgesmummy , I have the appointment with the gynaecologist on Saturday, so no doubt will find out what happens next. Bit nervous but want to get it all sorted.

Do you mind me asking, with the MRI scan, did they have to put you entirely in the scanner or just your pelvic region? A daft thing to worry about, perhaps, but I'm claustrophobic and can't go in the scanners, unless it's a 'open' one!

Thank you!

Buckle up - there is a bit of a story behind what MRI scanner I had!

I paid £300 to have the (first) MRI privately as my doctor wouldn’t refer me. I had been suffering from back pain for a while but had no other symptoms. The osteopath who I was seeing suggested it.

On the day of the scan, which was a closed one going in head first so it felt like a coffin, they couldn’t fit me in the scanner 😬

My stomach was very big, and had been for years. I am over weight and have always carried the fat around my middle. The scanner technician was very kind but it was possibly the most humiliating experience of my life.

I had to pay another £150 to return the following week to have an open scanner which was also bit of a squash (they had to remove all the padding from the trolley) it was the same young technician from the week before and again he was very gentle. It was only my body in the scanner and there was nothing near my face so I could see out and it didn’t feel claustrophobic in the slightest.

After the scan he asked me if I had ever had any investigations on my stomach and I said no, I’m just fat. He said he had taken some extra images as he was a bit uneasy about what he could see.

4 days later I had an email saying they could see a mass in my stomach, next day my doctor referred me on the 2 week cancer pathway. I week later after a CT scan, blood tests and an appointment with the consultant I was diagnosed with stage 1 ovarian cancer.

I have actually had another MRI last year as I’ve now got severe osteoarthritis in both my hips, again it was an open scanner and not at all claustrophobic

@fudgesmummy - Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm so sorry to hear that the first MRI experience was humiliating - but I'm so glad you did have it done eventually, given what they found. Sounds like it was a very stressful experience all round!

Do you mind me asking how you're doing now? Cancer wise, I mean.

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon
amazingly the 50lb tumour was actually benign! It was classed as stage 1 ovarian cancer.
I didn’t require any further treatment.
Did you have your appointment today?

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 19/04/2025 23:10

50lbs - good god! That's massive 😮So glad to hear you didn't need any further treatment.

Appointment today went well, the gynaecologist didn't seem overly concerned. I think it was more a precautionary measure, because of my age and the fact that the CA125 was raised on first test. I'm having more bloods done next week and then, if they are normal, she'll just see me in four months for another ultrasound to check on the cyst. She said the other things on the scan report are normal. So all find really. Will only feel properly relieved though once bloods are back - and if they are normal.

Really hope you're doing well these days, and hope you can get some relief from your osteoarthritis 🤗

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon
That’s good news from your appointment.

Sadly my osteoporosis diagnosis last May turned my life completely upside down.
I was forced to end my very successful 30 year career because I am no longer fit to work. I am in severe pain 24 hours a day and have to use crutches and a wheelchair so hardly leave the house.

I urgently need both my hips replaced but my BMI is too high for surgery, but I’m struggling to lose the required weight. ☹️
