Can all of these physical symptoms really be caused by stress and anxiety? I don’t know how to snap out of it

So back in September I started feeling lightheaded as if a boat was moving or as if the floor dropped beneath my feet, went to the gp a number of times who eventually put it down to it being viral but it’s never gone away since then. Some days I’ll be fine, if I’m happy I’ll forget about it it kind of goes away. I do need glasses and my prescription is 0.50 both eyes I last had them tested in June 2024 and she said I don’t need glasses all the time but when I feel comfortable like I need them, my eyesight has been feeling more blurry and I’ve also found when I permanently wear my glasses the “dizziness” also resolves completely. During all this time I’ve been using my phone for about 8 and a half hours each day googling my symptoms and thinking I’m dying.I’ve been under a lot of stress, always suffered with anxiety but after a 6 year age gap I had another baby. My kids are now 9,7 and 18 months and I am a stay at home mum with no support and my toddler is absolutely killing me. She has never slept through the night, even at 18 months she won’t be put down on the floor or entertain myself so I cook, clean and do everything with her attached to my hip and she is so heavy now and this has been going on since she was 7 months old. I’ve tried letting her cry it out but she just doesn’t quit and give up she will continue screaming until she’s red in the face and exhausts herself. Husband doesn’t help much and I never get time to switch off and I do all the school runs and care with my children and home care and I’m so so so exhausted. On top of other daily life stresses we have recently gone through a stressful time of buying a new house. I’ve always suffered with some kind of anxiety but since my pregnancy with my 18 month old I’ve felt my health has declined so much, I had such a difficult pregnancy with her which resulted in hyperemis, depression during pregnancy, a difficult birth with a lot of blood loss, suffered with post partum depression to some degree and also it took months and months to get my iron levels up to standard. And now the dizziness that started in September before she turned 1. Doctor did a blood test and my iron levels had come back to a couple of points below average so he considered it now to be normal. Due to all these symptoms of lightheadedness I started having severe panic attacks which I never had before, these have now eased off and are much better than they was before but they were so bad. I’d have them whilst waiting for my children at school and the dizziness feeling I was getting was even worse during these moments. I’d wake up in the middle of the night with these
panic attacks for a couple of months, racing heart, tingling feeling, the dizzy feeling being severe during these times. For the last couple of weeks/days though I’ve had other symptoms of numbness in my face and arms and I feel as if one side of my face is dropping so I start panicking more and keep checking in the mirror to see if my face is “normal” I keep getting these sensations at certain places like when I get into bed at night and the school play ground and end up having a panic attack from it. I’m scared I will end up having a stroke or something, I’m worried the dizziness feeling is something nurological. I don’t know anymore. Can stress and anxiety and sleep deprivation really cause all of these symptoms ?

Get iron and thyroid checked ( as mentioned by many upthread) also Vitamin D. You sound like you are running on empty. I suffer from vestibular migraine and have constant low level ( and often severe) symptoms - many that seem that also match yours. Worth investiagting on Dr Google and if you think its a possibility get a referral from GP to Neuro-otologist, neurologist or at a pinch ENT

Hey guys,
Just opening this back up especially to the originally lady who posted @Zaina89 and anyone who had similar. Did you resolve youre problem and how?
So for me around a month ago I was watching tv when this wave of like headrush passed through my body and went on through the night with pins & needles. Went to dr who ran all the tests and said all ok. Had bloods which all ok & an ECG all ok.. These strange feelings persisted for a few times a day for 2 weeks until I went to bed and as I nodded off my body woke up in a jolting mode with full pins and needles especially in the head with an awful feeling of like headrush and adrenaline and faintness. I actually called 111 as felt so bad. After around a few hours things subsided and went back to on and off feelings until 4am again woke in a panic to another episode that scared the life out of me and went on for hours, honestly thought I was having a stroke so scary then subsided again until its daily few times a day. I went back & forth to the doctors who didn't seem bothered at all because blood pressure ok, heart ok, pulse, bloods etc so I asked for mri & no interest so I went private and actually just got home. I had private bloods taken too as the doctors full blood count in didn't think covered much but nothing all perfect. I've done my own thread on here & had alot of suggestions on perimenopause & panic attack etc which I thought no way but I'd been doing well the last few days until I just went for this MRI & laying there got me tingling again & feeling very panicky which started the sensations and all the way home felt awful like breathless, tingly, faint and the exact feeling. Do you think this started as some sort of silent panic attacks with no stress? Any advice xx

Hi, just wanted to update and I read your post as this may help.

my symptoms did go away for a few months when I started to calm myself down and take things easy but have since returned worse since I started going through a period of stress and burnout again. It truly is awful and you really have my sympathies.

it started back up a couple of months ago where I had a really bad episode of panic when I was at the farm with my kids for a day out and I ended up in a wheelchair being pushed to a quiet room because I was having such a severe anxiety attack and I ended up breaking down and crying to the woman who worked there who was helping me. I realised then just how bad it was but since struggled to get a hold of it, before this episode I wasn’t really stressed but I was anxious and over doing things and I think my body was giving me signs in this way I was over doing it. I then had a period again where I took it easy as I was scared from what happened but again it started again as the daily stresses from life and anxiety really have a big hold.

all the symptoms you are explaining I have and am experiencing only this time it’s worse. I suffer with chest pain, palpitations, lightheadness, the head rush feeling you describe. I’ve had a period of time in the past during the worst part of my anxiety where for 3 days my hands and arms have been tingly. When I’m especially bad I will feel like one side of my face is going numb and start panicking more that I’m having a stroke or heart attack. I’ve recently starting suffering with headaches from the tension and for the last couple of nights my mind has been racing at night and I’ve been having awful anxiety attacks and palpitations. I’ve been to the doctors so many times, been offered medication but I don’t like taking it, I’ve tried therapy as well but it only helps temporarily so I eventually stop going. The only thing that I find helps my symptoms is by taking it easy and not over doing it and trying not to panic.

maybe you have over done it or have anxiety that you don’t even know, mine just suddenly started one day when I was like you watching tv and I had a head rush and ever since that day last year I’ve been like this. The only thing that helps me is I know it did go better before and I know I can get to that point again.

a YouTube channel that really helps me is cherellethinks. She’s an anxiety coach and she has loads of videos that talks about the symptoms of anxiety and stress and it’s unbelievable how many symptoms can be linked to anxiety and stress ( even if you haven’t recently been overly stressed or anxious)

I hope my reply somewhat helps you and do know that your not alone experiencing these awful symptoms x

Morning lovely @Zaina89
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me.
Bloody awful this, It's actually my birthday today & currently laying in bed feeling a bit poop but grateful for the people around me.
I'm sorry to hear you got rid of yours and now its back :(.
What medication have they given you?
So is your blood pressure, heart rate etc ok then too.?
Thank you for the useful link..
Do youre episodes sometimes last for hours?
I went through an awful patch last year of balance issues which started after a trip away, spent months crying & feeling like living on a boat, but never did i get this sensation.
They diagnosed me with MDDS like PPPD and gave me amitriptyline a type of depression pill which helped to an extent..
Fast forward I was dealing with living with this odd condition like I said watching tv when this started a headrush faint feeling. All night pins & needles. Was really getting me down as everyday these surges would come over me and didn't matter what I was doing. It was getting me down & felt scared. Tearful and after having so many tests thought they'd go..
Then the 2 nighttime attacks happened and I honestly thought I was going to have a stroke. They both pretty much lasted all night. Rang 111 & contemplated going to A&E. My husband came home from working away as I was so scared and being alone with my daughter & dog thinking of something bad happening feels unthinkable.
I actually paid for a private MRI yesterday so will hear back in a couple of days but the feeling came over me again while I was in the machine, omg tingles and thought I'd have to get out but I held in.
When I came out the feeling was so intense. I felt like I was struggling to breathe this time on top of the tingles, spaced out headrushes and like I couldn't swallow. Holy moly awful. Had a few surges this morning too :(

Low iron can cause heart palpitations, chest pain, anxiety, restless legs etc.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/iron-deficiency-anaemia/

Low B12 can cause heart palpitations, blurred vision (therefore dizziness), wobbliness , "mental" issues etc
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vitamin-b12-or-folate-deficiency-anaemia/symptoms/

Stress can deplete your stores rapidly.
Iron needs to be around 70 for healthy hair growth, 100 is nearer optimal.
B12 needs to be around 300 or above.
Vit D needs to be above 75
Folate (I believe) needs to be above 4

What are your levels and the lab ranges?

AnotherNaCha · 08/10/2025 10:18

@Cbpoppy @Zaina89 I had such similar symptoms… and think it’s a combo of hormone fluctuations causing it alongside brand-new food sensitivities that came about alongside the hormonal changes. Worth keeping a food diary… my “turns” appeared approx 6 hours after having fish or seafood like prawns. Took me ages to work it out and am loads better now I avoid those (even though they don’t appear to show up in allergy tests). Sertraline also helped a lot. Tried HRT as I’m sure it’s linked to peri but I as so sensitive to it and couldn’t get it right so stopped. A supplement with saffron in it is also an absolute game-changer. It’s calming and works amazingly well!
It’s so scary and frustrating I really went through the exact same tests and fears. Please try what I did

Cbpoppy · 08/10/2025 10:27

Thank you so much for responding @AnotherNaCha I honestly havent known anything like it! I have hrt to try, I'm actually 44 today. My hormones got checked last week & looked good but I know that doesn't mean much. Haven't noticed any patterns with food although will keep an eye on it. Haven't heard of a saffron supplement. Ive heard omega 3 is a good one to supplement on. I'm currently on amitriptyline which is sort of an antidepressant/sleep/migrane prevention but I'm slowly decreasing this since all this started incase it has anything to do with it but I'm sure it's not tbh as been on it for years. I feel I probably need to start a fresh. Just never known anything like it. I also have propanol downstairs but not tried it xx

Soupandaroll · 08/10/2025 10:30

I had similar and it was thyroid, have they checked that?

@Cbpoppy those are nice so you can definitely cross those off your list. I can appreciate those pins/needles being scary as I've had that for over 25 years, you do gradually get used to them 😬 Happy Birthday btw 🍾

They diagnosed me with MDDS like PPPD
What are they?

Cbpoppy · 08/10/2025 12:32

Thank you @littlegreendragon
Yes very scary and I'm just a bit lost as I've been far more anxious & depressed in my life, if this is the cause?
Thank you for the birthday wishes xx

Cbpoppy · 08/10/2025 17:35

Do you also get where the brain feels kinda hot, tingly & kind of fizzy if that makes any sense? Like you feel abit electric, maybe that sounds odd? Arms feel numb and tingly and sometimes like a prickly sort of feeling. So not like a full attack but leaves you feeling awful & worried with sensations and fogginess.headache and another thing I've noticed bad especially on a big attack is the dry lips, dehydration feel.

Cbpoppy · 09/10/2025 13:29

Just to update the mri has come back normal.
Hope everyone is ok.
