You need to have the earwax removed. Some opticians also have people who will do this. So does Costco.

We have a place on our high street that does it but you need to have done the drops first before they will see you. DH has done it twice and it was a huge relief each time.

Yes I’m actually thinking that finish the course and take it from there. Can’t hear properly all muffley maybe blood pressure just might go down a bit when this all subsides, I have heard that specsavers remove ear wax

Specsavers do earwax removal.

Most places want you to have used olive oil spray for 5 days to soften the wax before suctioning. So maybe start on that and book and appointment for next week.

purser25 · 10/04/2025 16:15

I was told olive oil is the best to put in ears

I know two people who have developed tinnitus after ear wax removal. If you can keep treating it yourself. Oil every night helps.

Boots do earwax removal through their Hearingcare division and a lot of Audiologists offer this service.

BlondeCircus · 10/04/2025 16:17

Thanks firenzeflower I didn’t realise that could happen

@BlondeCircus a good audiologist will suggest oil before they remove it. It’s very effective. It softens the wax and the wax just disperses in the shower.

You can DIY at home. Drops in ears for 5 days then use ear syringe. Got mine at Boots for about£8 for the both in a kit by Neil Med. You literally just flush the wax out. One ear was blocked quite deep in and hearing muffled in ear so it was v frustrating but sorted it using that kot.

That doesn’t work for me. It takes an audiologist doing microsuction or preferably syringing to get rid of my ear wax. They can never remove the wax close to the eardrum, but sodium bicarbonate drops get rid of that last bit.

I’ve been told not to use olive oil drops in my ear, before I go to see them, as my ear wax is so sticky anyway, they say it’s like trying to remove honey with a trowel. Olive oil just makes it even worse.

That’s why syringing is better for me than microsuction, but not all audiologists will do syringing.
