,,, aren't tummy bugs supposed to only last 48 hours? ...

Dd (5 1/2) and I went off our food on Saturday evening and have felt lousy ever since, really nauseous, some diarrhea but no major vomiting. Dd's had a fever although I haven't. But we're totally washed out. I'd hoped today would be better but we've been in all day and dd's currently asleep on a cushion on the floor.

Has anyone else had a bug that's lasted this long?

Poor you IF, hope you get better soon. Is your poorly dd the one who had/has the skin problems? How is her skin now?

imaginaryfriend · 18/05/2008 22:07

Psychomum, I expect a week but with the first few days the worst and the rest consisting of an unpleasant but slow recovery. This bug is literally getting more violent every day for me so far.

calvemjoe, yes my dd did have the skin problem around a year ago. She's so much better now though is being monitored. Thanks for asking.

How are you feeling now?

imaginaryfriend · 21/05/2008 12:07

well it turns out that we both had campylobacter so we're on antibiotics and now feeling a lot better although very weak and still with virtually no appetite. Good job I got us tested!

Thanks for all the advice on here though and Doodle I hope you're feeling better too?

Crumbs, how horrid. Did you go to A&E or to your GP in the end? Glad you're feeling a bit better - at last!

imaginaryfriend · 21/05/2008 13:35

dd had a stool sample at the GP and I had one at A&E. I really really hope that this is the end of it! I wish I could get my appetite back though...

It will probably take a little while to get back to normal. Did they tell you to repeat the stool samples in a week or two's time? Dh had to do that, to eliminate any possibilty he was still carrying it.

imaginaryfriend · 21/05/2008 21:58

Yes, the GP's given me some 'pots' to put our productions in. He said 10 days from starting the antibiotics.

What fun, getting samples!

calvemjoe · 24/05/2008 14:21

I'm glad that you got an answer if but I'm sorry that you've both got something so nasty. Get well soon x

SaintGeorgeasaurus · 24/05/2008 14:40

Poor you, camp can be awful.

My ex-boss did a lot of work identifying campylobacter as an infectious organism in contaminated water. Deliberately drank the stuff by the bucket load to infect himself then expected me to admire the montage of photos - "me, drinking on riverbank" "me, puking on river bank" "me ....", well you get the drift.

Strange man.

Glad your feeling better.
DH has been the same as you described. Started feeling ill on Sunday and went shivery but boiling and then each day has got progessively worse. He hasnt had diariah(sp) all day but gets attacks throughout the day and is full of wind and burping a fowl smell and taste. Yesterday was his worst day where he had watery diariah and went to the gp's who have sent a sample off to rule out food poisoning.
Im just hoping that none of us get it as were on holiday next saturday.

imaginaryfriend · 24/05/2008 23:05

kbaby, that sounds very like what happened with us. At first we just felt off our food and tired and a bit nauseous, then within days we were so much worse. I hope your dh feels better soon.
