Sudden onset toddler eczema help!

NC.
DD has (2yrs), without any prior history has come out in eczema over back and abdomen and neck. We have seen the GP twice (once remote and once in person) and now have a number of creams including Oilatum for bath, Oilatum cream, aveeno cream, sudocrem, and 1% hydrocortisone.

We are trying to work out the best combo. Try to hit the outbreak hard with the hydrocortisone and then cut back (while separately moisturising) or use hydrocortisone for worst areas intermittently?

Any help from experience appreciated

Cut out dairy and give probiotics. That’ll sort it.

Additional helpful things are soft 100% cotton clothing with no tags, gentle laundry detergent that has been thoroughly rinsed out (don't forget bedding), and maybe mittens to stop nighttime scratching. Keep it really well moisturized with the creams so it doesn't get dried out.

I beleive that hitting hard with the hydrocortisone at first (v thin laye tho) is best for getting it quickly under control and reducing the inflammation, then step it down (i.e. hit hard but for as short a course as possible so you dont fall into long term use). Focus that on the worst areas though, and dont apply more than youve been advised to. Put the moisturisers on a bit after so the hydrocortisone can soak in first, and then obviously keep the moisturisers topped up. I'd go back to the gp in a week to make sure it's all going in the right direction.

Second the new non-dairy. We used goat milk for quite a while.

Its very common to get eczema as a toddler without a history of it. There is no cure for eczema so don’t look for magic, luckily the majority of people grow out of it. Make sure you moisturise within 3 minutes of getting out of the bath. Try a few different laundry detergents etc to see if one of them calms it.

childhood eczema isn’t the end of the world so try not to get too obsessed. Stick with treatments for at least a few weeks - lots of people dip and dive throwing anything that could possibly help at it but not giving anything the chance to work.

@Gonk123funnily enough in 29 years of eczema prebiotics and going dairy free haven’t helped a jot. Eczema is a descriptor more than a condition in itself - it’s caused by one or more of over 36 genetic components or/and allergic components. Most chronic eczema is not related to dairy or the gut but to genetics.

Funnily enough if it works wonders for my daughter. Thanks for your top tip though 🤔
