Alternative to atorvastatin? Joint pain

Gp started me on 20 mg of atorvastatin a few weeks ago - my cholesterol is stubbornly high because of underlying under active thyroid issues. I am having quite bad pain in my knees which I was told could be a side effect? Have to go back for a blood test and review - what have others done in this situation - lower dose or different type of statin?

NoBlush, I was just speaking as someone who's been at the sharp end and I'm keen to know as much as possible to minimise any further problems. I didn't know what statins did apart from lowering cholesterol. But turns out it's more than that and keeping blood vessels healthy (ier) and reducing inflamation is pretty significant imo.

DH is fine now, thanks. It mainly affected his eyes / vision followed by some epilepsy-type incidents. He's on medication for that and had to wait 12 months before he could drive again. Strokes are so variable in my experience of family members. I hope you're getting decent support / therapy but I know it varies a lot.

😊

i'm glad your DH is doing pretty well.

yes, strokes are very variable, I am extremely grateful it didn't affect my cognitive ability or my speech. However, my entire right side is without feeling, but at the same time as hypersensitive, so lots of things hurt even though I can't actually feel them on my skin, it's hard to explain. I've had to let the DVLA know about it. I will have to go for an assessment and then reapply to have my license back, but I know right now I'm not capable of driving and if I don't start to get some feeling back on my right side I'm going to have to have adaptations to the car.🥲🙇🏻‍♀️

I was 'only' 55 in January when I had the strokes🥲 I had the early discharge/team for six weeks, I'm on a waiting list for OT in PHYSIO, but they can't tell me when that might start.

@Ihad2Strokes if there was a fingers crossed react emoji I would have given you it but it's frustrating to read of anyone having to wait for pretty essential therapy. When my DM had a severe stroke the consultant said to think of it as a significant assault on the brain, the effects of which depend on the part that was injured. Kind of made sense.
Hopefully your sensory problems may improve gradually.
