Blood on toilet paper after wee ( not in toilet) just once

I'll preface this by saying I have health anxiety.

I don't flush the loo if I get up in the night for a wee. This morning I noticed the paper in the bowl has a bit of pinky brown blood on it.(it was dark when I wiped so didn't notice at the time) The wee itself looked normal. Initially I thought my period had started but after checking inside there was no blood. I'm perimenopause, not had a proper period for nearly 3 months but did have a bit of spotting about 6 weeks ago. I'm now freaking this blood was from my bladder although all my wees have looked normal today and it's not happened again. I was going to wait to see if it happened again but I belive the advice is blood in urine should be checked even if it only happens once (if it is indeed my urine). Should I be making an urgent appointment? I feel so silly (& scared). Thanks!

I've just read on Bladder Cancer Action website (so a legit source) about a woman who had just two tiny spots of blood on toilet paper and it turned out to be cancer 😥

Oh gosh I have had traces of blood many times, I would only go to GP if I had other symptoms such as pain etc

Seems more likely that it was spotting. But advice is to always get blood in urine checked out, plus you’re obviously worried about it, so I think I would.

Same.

I’d think maybe a urine infection or more likely spotting given you’re in peri.

Thanks, I think I'm going to have to as much as I hate having tests as it sends my anxiety sky high. The same article also says the woman had several clear urine tests so wasn't taken seriously at first.

Stop perusing the bladder cancer website! This is an overreaction and is only ramping up your health anxiety.

It's far more likely to be an infection than cancer ( that's if the blood even came from the bladder in the first place).

See your GP but stop catastrophizing. Sop Googling and look into getting some help for your health anxiety; it can really take a toll on your quality of life.

It is really common to get vaginal atrophy during peri/menopause - wiping can cause atrophied skin to bleed slightly. Worth booking a GP appointment for an examination and reassurance though.

I am sorry you are going through this - 🌺 health anxiety is tough - I have this to some degree - you probably have an infection - make an appt to see your GP - to reassure yourself - please also try and get some help for your HA from your GP

BeaQuiet · 26/03/2025 23:08

You'd probably benefit from a prescription for Vagifem.

You should always see a GP if you have blood in your urine, even just the once. It can be a sign of kidney cancer.

I do have this, pointed out by a doctor last year. I do occasionally bleed after wiping and I have had random spotting too. However, in both cases it's obvious where the blood is coming from. This time it isn't so I can't shake the fear it came from elsewhere (bladder or kidneys) so will have to get it checked for my sanity if nothing else.

Could be kidney stones

Mindymomo · 27/03/2025 06:53

Whilst I was perimenopause I had about 2 years on and off spotting, mainly old brownish/pink spotting, mentioned to GP who said it’s normal to have some spotting, but to keep a check and if there was more frequent blood and different poo (different colour) then they would look into it, but fortunately the spotting never became anything more than just occasional, just my body getting me ready for menopause.

Marie8611 · 27/03/2025 06:58

Pinky brown blood in my experience is just spotting which happens all the time with me (I have endometriosis). Especially given that you are perimenopausal. I’d go the doctors simply to put your own mind at ease if you have health anxiety, no point in stressing over it and making yourself massively anxious and letting that feeling linger xx
