Ablation for varicose veins the aftermath?

I had radiofrequency ablation(I think?) for varicose veins a week ago tomorrow. I'm in Ireland and had it done publically. They told me nothing. I'm pretty sure it was ablation I had done but they told me nothing of the healing process so I was hoping others could tell me about theirs and if what I am experiencing is normal.

The varicose veins are behind my knee and now it's really swollen and quite painful. I've been wearing a thigh high compression sock, keeping my leg elevated where I can and icing it but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Is it normal to be so swollen, the back of my knee goes out rather in at the moment. To add insult to injury the veins look the same? From what I've read I should be seeing a difference now, did you see a difference straight away?

I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday about something else so I will ask her then but I was hoping someone could put my mind at rest before then. There is no way I am getting it done again, the local anaesthetic didn't seem to work for me at all and it was one of the most painful experiences of my life so I'm really hoping this is normal.

I had really bad veins. Massive in both legs. My experience wasn’t pleasant but wasn’t exactly painful more uncomfortable. The worst thing was the bandages and stockings afterwards it was so annoying. I would say mine looked awful afterwards massive bruising and it took several weeks for that to disappear. I would worry that you have a clot behind your knee, it should not go out rather than in. Having said all that, I don’t regret having it done at all and feel so much better for it.
