I have quite bad reflux this morning on waking I could taste blood in mouth I think it’s coming from throat/ stomach so I’ve decided enough is enough I need this sorting, I’m petrified of having upper endoscopy as have strong gag reflex, and I was reading that a transnasal endoscopy is another option

I’ve had one of these for silent reflux. No numbing required and no pain, just follow their instructions for breathing etc whilst their performing the procedure, it’s really easy. Try not to worry about it 🤗

@Snippit did you have silent reflux and if so what did they suggest?

My GP thinks I have it and is the reason for my uncontrolled asthma cough. But three weeks of omeprazole and a month of momethasone for nasal drop haven't helped and I'm still coughing. I'm now on famotidine. So far the only outcome is horrific reflux the day I stopped the omeprazole (I don't normally have reflux).

I'm also considering having one of the these as well as referral to respiratory.

I've had one and it was fine (I did have the numbing spray up the nose...it helps stop the gag reflex)..I was dreading it but it really was ok.
Way better than the oesophageal manomentry and overnight sensor (like an NG tube but wire into the stomach!)... that I also had to have...that WAS grim as the manometry tube was like a bloody hosepipe!

(Am now on a load of meds so was worth it)...go to your GP!

I had one as I can't have traditional endoscopy. It was fine - I had the numbing spray. It feels a bit weird but doesn't hurt and takes barely any time. Good luck!

I had a horrible cough, I presumed this was due to a virus I’d had but it went on for months. I don’t have any other symptoms of silent reflux apart from a very dry throat now, for this I have found that Riccola throat sweets are brilliant, I have them in every room, I often wake in the night and pop one in.

Omeprazole did nothing for me apart from giving me a headache. My G.P change it to Nitazidine, which gave me horrendous flatulance 🥴, I stopped taking them. I resorted to Gaviscom, which apparently is as good as Omeprazole, also Omeprazole isn’t proven to work for silent reflux, they give it out like smarties 🤷‍♀️

The medics gave me no other information of what to use, I’ve found out from trial and error and the internet 🤗

@Snippit thank you for your reply
I've got horrendous acid again today. Most frustrating as I've never had this before the omeprazole started!

Will persue with GP.

I've had severe acid reflux with a sour taste in my mouth. I've tried Gaviscon but it didn't really help much (a couple of hours at most). Has any one been to St Thomas' for a transnasal endoscopy? I'm looking for (mostly) positive accounts of the procedure and whether the gag reflex is triggered via the transnasal route. TIA
