Long term B12 deficiency? Could this be why I’ve been tired most of my life?!

Had my B12 tested recently (as well as other things) as I’ve been exhausted and developed a bad eye twitch that hasn’t been going away.

Doctor says that results are borderline, so not definitely ruling deficiency out or in. I’ve started taking high dose supplements and I think I am beginning to feel a little better.

However, I’ve looked at my results history and it shows that as far back as 2005 the levels weren’t much higher and have been reducing f since. This has never been flagged as an issue before, I assume because I’ve never raised it specifically.

My question is this…I’ve always been tired, much more tired than ‘normal’ people my age and can very rarely get through a day without feeling a strong urge to nap (which I sometimes can and sometimes can’t due to work commitments). This has gone on for years. I’ve often felt like I’m living in an exhausted fog physically. i struggle doing activities in the evening due to tiredness etc. I’ve always just put it down to me not having the same stamina as others…but could it be the lower range B12 having caused this??

My osteopath once said to me that a borderline test result might be within the 'normal' range for the population as a whole, but that doesn't mean it is normal for you.

I have been arguing the toss with my GP about an underactive thyroid for years. They say it is in the normal range. I say how come I have ALL the symptoms of an underactive thyroid then?

I would say yes potentially it could be.

I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia several years back after being bone tired for years, pain sensitive, emotional, forgetful etc.

I was initially given loading doses of b12 and then moved to 12 weekly injections, which was changed to 10 weekly - and they have really changed my life. I dip when it's coming due, my colleagues even notice when it's B12 time.

If you're really lucky, it is the reason - because it's easily fixed! Fingers crossed.
