Does anyone else get unbelievably stressed when their little one gets poorly?

DD 17 months has a temperature. Not even an enormous one but she is grizzly and generally not happy. I've had to go to her 3 times within 2 hours of her going to bed, with one of them being a 20 minute unconsolable sobbing fit. She's still hot and bothered despite managing to get medicine down her. And I am feeling hot and bothered and stressed and anxious and am aware that I am completely over-reacting

well she is your wee baby and she is not well so of course you are upset

have you offered her some water, stripped her down and stuff?

make sure you keep her dosed up on calpol/nurofen and she may well improve quicker than you think

Sorry, not a medical person at all, but couldn't let this thread go ...

Just breathe, you have done everything you can ... have a cup of tea and put your feet up for a bit ..

Keep an eye on her and all the best...

And by the way, DH is the main worrier in our house with me not too far behind...

What if she develops meningitis in the night and I miss it

Know the feeling ds started with a temp on Sunday, he is so rarely ill that it really floors me. So it went on until last night, he hasn't had a high temp since last night, but this afternoon, while he was perking up and looking better and I started relaxing, I noticed red spots on his back, so I thought the worry was over, but it appears I might have to deal with chicken pox this week.

RubySlippers · 13/05/2008 21:26

sweetheart - sleep in her room or put her in bed with you

if you think she is really poorly then call your GP now or NHS Direct

has her fever gone up a lot?

dinny · 13/05/2008 21:30

you're not over-reacting, sleep on the floor beside her

PuppyDogTails · 13/05/2008 21:32

I always pull a single futon out on the floor next to DS's cot, otherwise I don't sleep all night for worrying about him when he's poorly.

lazarou · 13/05/2008 21:33

I'm terrible when mine get ill. a few weeks ago ds2 was coughing really badly and wheezing, so I ordered dh to take him straight to the local hospital (middle of the night).
Of course, you're not supposed to just turn up, so they told him off when he got there as there was no doctor there. Dh said a doctor turned up looking like he had just got out of bed, poor bloke.
Anyway, strip her off, give her water, and sit with her if you need to. Phone nhs helpline if you are worried.

TYAGN - how is your little one?

Thankyouandgoodnight · 14/05/2008 21:43

I took her to the Drs today - she has tonsillitis and her body is covered in a 'viral' rash .

She's so unsettled and despite meds, is finding it harder to sleep for longer than 20 mins at a time and is getting really distressed.

Thank you for asking.

candyfluff · 14/05/2008 22:27

i am exactly the same when my kids get ill i fall to bits ,i even have panic attacks imagining the worst. i hate feling like this.
my dh cant stand the way i react.

lazarou · 14/05/2008 23:02

Tonsillitis!!! No wonder you were worried. Hope she feels better soon.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 15/05/2008 08:19

I feel much better knowing what it is and that it's nothing to worry about as I'm the same as candyfluff - in the back of my mind i wonder if it's something so serious that it's going to be the end of them. It's such a horrid feeling!
