DH has come home with a rash on his arms, it looks like angry little blisters (lentil sized), and some bigger sores (pea sized)...anyone know what it might be?

Am worried it might be dangerous either to him or the children, please reassure me that I am being paranoid

gosh, i don;t know ! surely chicken pox would be all over and it is smaller spots?

dunno.. hope he is on the mend soon though

my DS had something similar a few years ago which was eventually diagnosed (after ruling our shingles and chickenpox simultaneously) as an allergic rreaction to the sun. It was at this time of year as well. We were told that it is common on first exposure to strong sunlight. He had it again the following year, but much milder and then nothing since then.

there is a blistery rash associated with gluten intolerance and coeliac disease. He doesn't have any other symptoms of that does he?

Greensleeves · 13/05/2008 18:30

That's interesting Daisy, he does have a mild gluten intolerance (it was stronger when he was a child but eating pizza still gives him dicky bowels)

he's used to sunlight though, he's 30

I've got a blistery rash at the mo on my upper arms following first sun exposure of the year.

It has been there for over a week now, grrrr. Not painful as such but tender and slightly itchy. I'm pretty sure it's a sun rash as I've had it before. Apparently it's to do wiht blocked sweat glands or something (lovely) and can be worse if you have lotion on as that blocks the glands.

Hope it's nothing to worry about

lackaDAISYcal · 13/05/2008 18:47

his mild gluten intolerance may be getting more serious.

I had dodgy innards for years (also triggered by pizza, especially the scottish deep fried variety ) and had several outbreaks of dermatitis herpeteformis (first one when I was 28), although it wasn't diagnosed at the time as such; they thought it was shingles, but it was all over my face and elbows and knees.

I was finally diagnosed with coeliac disease four years ago at the age of 35!

never had a re-occurence of the rash since I gave up gluten.

It might be worth asking the GP to do a blood test for gluten antibodies?

Greeny - this is the third thread I've posted on about this recently but Google 'polymorphic light eruption' (PLE). It's basically a sensitivity to the sun. I started with it about 6 years ago out of the blue.

PixelHerder · 13/05/2008 21:49

Saggar - blimey that's interesting, I reckon that's definitely what I have but I thought it was just a bit of a sun rash

Greensleeves - what did NHS Direct say?
