Does this need an urgent appointment?

One of my nipples has become increasingly itchy over the last few months, it seems to have a crusty layer to it but I'm only really noticing the itching at night. Could this be peri symptoms? Or something more serious? I don't want to waste any GP time.. (it's been 4 years since breastfeeding so I'm pretty sure it's not that!)

Yes - I would get that checked asap

KateShugakIsALegend · 19/03/2025 21:43

Yes, fully and promptly

I had this over 29 years ago went to the dr’s and it was eczema - itching weeping from irritation from my bra and washing powder - good to get if checked

I wouldn’t think urgent as in next day but urgent as in 2 weeks. That’s what happens at my local breast clinic.

Thank you, I'd wondered if it could be bra related as it seems to come and go. It's the smaller breast so I thought that might make it less likely to be bra related. I'll speak to the GP. Is e consult with a photo a bit grim?

It does need an appointment, yes.
Best to let the Drs decide on the urgency of it, I find they get grumpy when you tell them exactly what you want.

e consults are amazing . Gp’s then prioritise what needs seeing urgently - routinely .. but yes it should be checked by Gp

I'm hoping to avoid any urgent pathways tbh...I've spent too much time in hospital over the past few years and it's just felt my life is getting back on track...this is probably why I've been reluctant to be checked.

I’m so glad you’ve been seen and that they are taking swift action. I hope everything and yourself is ok OP Flowers

Thanks, I'm feeling ok about it I think. I had a real dizzy spell at work yesterday morning for a few hours- no idea if that's linked in any way or maybe just tiredness.
