Does anyone else seem to have the worst immune system possible?!! I pick up every cold/illness possible and take ages to recover from it! For example, last Friday I started off with horrendous body shakes, going cold, headache, vomiting and really tired which lasted about 4 days which I was shocked at and the tiredness I’m only just getting over. A few days ago I had a horrible sore throat and as of yesterday I’ve came down with a god awful cold, vomiting, diarrhoea, my nose is so blocked and I’m breathless (I do have asthma but not sure if it’s just the fact that my nose is blocked) I get so unbelievably depressed and emotional when I’m unwell which causes me to cry on and off all day. I’m at the point now where I literally don’t want to go anywhere at all because I’m so tired of being unwell. I can’t get anything done in the house and have the worst mam guilt ever feeling like my son is missing out on so much due to me always being unwell. I take high dose vitamin d tablets, vit c and zinc (sambucol) have even tried the first defence spray but it does nothing at all! Doctors have done full blood tests and apart from slight inflammation in my body they said everything else is fine! School is quite a far walk up hill and I do that walk twice a day, usually hitting around 11-15k steps by the time I get in, I do exercises in the house as and when I’m well, have been eating an anti inflammatory diet for the past few months which hasn’t seemed to help and the only thing I’ve got going against me bar asthma is the fact that I’m overweight but I can’t for the life of me lose weight!!

What happens with your asthma when you have a cold? Do you have an asthma plan? And if so, do you follow it?

Took me a ridiculously long time to learn that I'd get better quicker if I follow my asthma plan than trying to do my own thing which was usually trying to explain away the breathlessness as 'not that bad' and getting exhausted from coughing all night and never sleeping.

Penny only really dropped when looking at my non-asthmatic DH having a cold compared to me.

I just get really breathless and usually end up with a Chest infection or steroids 9 times out of 10. I do have a peak flow meter and am aware of what is low for me/when to get help etc. when I’ve got a cold I can take my pink inhaler up to 8 times a day rather than the usual 4 that I take daily. Sometimes I’m extremely breathless but yet my peak flow has only dropped slightly so it baffles me! It is really hard having asthma and getting unwell. Last winter I needed steroids every month but this winter I’ve only needed them twice so my doctor is very happy but it doesn’t help in the slightest when I feel unwell constantly!

I need steroids every time too! If my peak flow drops by just 10 I can really feel it. If I try and stick it out doing the 8 puffs a day I'm just sicker for far longer.

Have you had a recent asthma review? In the surgery I go to, basically all the asthma management is done by the nurse. If you need steroids that often, you may need a step up.

However you also mentioned having a small child? Unfortunately that's equivalent to living inside a germ factory.

@AnnaMagnaniI’m glad it’s not just me! I know a family member of mine has pretty mild asthma but she’s needed steroids a few times too! I’ve been to an asthma nurse and recently a respiratory doctor and both have said they’re happy for the time being of how my inhaler is working as even though I’ve needed steroids/antibiotics I usually don’t take my blue inhaler. I took it once in a full year! Just seems to be winter time I struggle a bit more. He did say due to the fact I’ve needed less steroids this winter, wait until just after this summer and see how I am in hopes I will only need 1 or none but if it goes back up they will look at adding another inhaler or changing it for winter time!

Yeah I have a 4 year old in reception, he is literally the biggest germ ever! He used to get so unwell with colds etc but recently he’s flying through them, I’m so jealous Grin😅
