Hi all, had these for about a month. Had a blood test, all seems okay. Am 40, exercise and maybe premeno. I did have a floss accident on one side ages ago, but don’t think it’s this. Any ideas?

Have you had the results of your blood tests (a print out) or have you only been told that they are OK. You might find something that is low but still in range if you get your results.

Angular cheilitis?

pleasedonotfeedme · 16/03/2025 17:05

Also would say angular cheilitis - look it up as it sounds like it would fit!

Jumbocord · 16/03/2025 17:43

I think it is that - does anyone happen to know a cure?

I get it and it appears in cold weather/when I’m run down and stressed/I have dry lips. I find there’s no quick fix, but what helps is a vitamin supplement/lots of sleep/lots of good quality plain lip balm applied continuously for several days. A change in the weather helps a lot, but if I’m run down I occasionally get it in summer too.

My GP said the lip balm is key, because saliva irritates the cracks and keeps them open (try not to lick your lips).

Oh I get this, read it was related to thrush? I use cannestan or daktacort when it flares in winter, heals up nice and fast :)

pleasedonotfeedme · 16/03/2025 18:10

Mine isn’t related to thrush - I just have a tendency to get irritated skin (i can’t use scented bath products, for example). For me, just consistent use of unscented lip balm sorts it but I do have to be careful to avoid licking my lips or allowing them to dry out.

Thank you, will try plain lip balm from today!

My son is prone to these, I swear by Carmex lip balm, comes in a little pot and lasts for ages!

I get those and generally take some vitamin pills and put some Dakerin or Caneston on it and it clears up, it can be fungal so I suspect it's the cream rather than the vitamin pills that works. I also use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm

Have you checked your ferritin? Even without anemia you can be deficient and low ferritin can actually cause this.
I have had it s couple of times around my period last year and just found out I’m iron deficient but not anemic. Currently on an iron bisclycinate supplement as I have lots of symptoms 🤞🏼

Edited to add I am also 40 and probably perimenopausal; heavy periods which is why my iron stores are low. So if you recognize this definitely ask for a ferritin check!
