Teething and diarrhea link?

My DD is five and a half months old and is showing all the signs of teehing...dribbling, putting everything in her mouth etc. No signs of any teeth yet though. She has been like this for a couple of weeks. Yesterday she started having terrible diarrhea and became quite distressed. She doesn't have a tempeature I realise this could just be a tummy bug from chewing everthing in sight.
Does anybody have experience of diarrhea being linked to teething. If so what did you do...any treatment?
Thanks in advance.

Teething can cause excess saliva production which in turn can cause loose poo - but it shouldn't cause terrible diarrhea that is distressing her.

Kept her well hydrated and take her to the doctor if it continues and if she has a temperature.

I've been in Childcare for 30 years (and a Grandmother to boot) and although Doctors say there is no link between teething and diarrhea, I would say about 80% of babies get it while teething (or go the other way and get teribly consipated.

Hi I wondered if anyone can give me some advice. I have a 7 month old baby who until recently was a perfect sleeper day and night. Just over a week ago she started with diarrhea and whilst it has calmed down her poos are still quite loose and she goes after every feed (milk and solids). She seems ok in herself although she does have a bit of nappy rash as a result. In parallel with this she has also become really difficult to settle and seems to hate being put down in her cot and left. She has also started waking in the night screaming and again is very difficult to settle. Our health visitor has advised lactose free milk and bland foods which is what we a re doing. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on whats wrong and what i can do to help. Thanks xx
