I have been feeling off for a few days now but it seems to be getting worse, and nothing like I’ve ever had before!

Wednesday I feel a little sick, stomach ache etc, but put this down to anxiety with my job
Thursday was the same again but I felt slightly better
Friday I woke up with a chesty cough, when I took a deep intake of breath I would cough, after lunch I felt sick again. It gradually got worse through the day and I didn’t eat any tea (unlike me!)
Woken up today and cough is really chesty, mucus, and my stomach is in so much pain! I feel like I’ve got a stomach bug but no diarrhoea or vomiting

is this a new type of flu or Covid? I never normally get ill so when I do, it’s a massive inconvenience!

Flu or a bad cold.

AgricolaOrBed · 15/03/2025 13:45

Hi OP, I’m just recovering from something similar and in fact wrote a post on this board earlier this week.

Mine started with a cold/sinusitis then, a week or so after I thought I’d got rid of that, I developed a fever, racing heart and absolutely crippling stomach pains - no vomiting or diarrhoea. I felt much iller than with a cold.

The pain cleared up after few days but I am still tired and have a cracking headache today.

The closest I could find in old MN threads was threads about early stage covid, where bad stomach pain was a feature. Maybe it was that - will never know and am putting it down to a random but very unpleasant virus.

Hope you feel better soon OP, it is nasty.

Maybe Covid? When I've had proper flu in the past, it has come on very quickly and hit me like a ton of bricks, as in, I was feeling well with no symptoms, then an hour later very unwell, temperature, shivers etc. There are lots of viruses around at the moment with flu like symptoms.

Sounds very similar to me - hopefully it doesn’t hang around too much as it’s already scuppered my plans for today.

It could well be, I have ordered one of those Covid/flu tests off Amazon to arrive today so I’ll see if it tells me anything
I work in education so I guess it was only a matter of time before something got me!

I came on here to see if there where any posts about this. I'm now on week two of these symptoms and it's showing no signs of easing off.

Dc hasn't eat anything in days with stomach pains however there hasn't been any vomiting or diarrhea.

The cough is brutal.

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 16/03/2025 03:43

I had similar in October. Then my 2dc developed sudden bad colds but no stomach pain. Then dh started with cold symptoms. He tested positive for Covid. I’m assuming it’s what we all had but only he tested.

Buzyizzy21 · 16/03/2025 04:21

Asking peeps on here if it’s Covid? 🤣🤣
How about testing? If you’re in education, you should still be testing weekly anyway. I certainly do.
I trust you haven’t been passing your germs to the children or indeed anyone else whilst you wait for the result? It’s not an inconvenience to others, it’s life threatening.

TappyGilmore · 16/03/2025 05:11

My guess would be Covid. I had it last month and it was similar to have you’ve described, certainly not that bad, but the same sort of thing.

Walkden · 16/03/2025 05:58

Seems pointless when 99% of people don't test anymore, and it is literally govt policy that everyone catches it regularly.

JanglingJack · 16/03/2025 06:04

Covid was always a persistent dry cough, not chesty unless it turned in to an infection after time.

It'll be some weird lurgy.

Dont worry, I did a test and it came back negative for COVID. I did say that earlier but you obviously didn’t read in enough detail to pick that up.
Does your work pay for regular testing? Mine certainly don’t.

Who is spending a fortune on weekly tests?

I work in healthcare and haven’t tested for ages. Free tests stopped years ago. Staff are not discouraged going to work sick either. Wear masks.

I’ve a friend who works in a school and basically you are practically dying if you don’t drag yourself in ill. The kids are all encouraged to be in whatever illness they seem to have for attendance stats covid or not so 🤷‍♀️.

Did you actually read your post before publishing? So you don’t care if you pass it on to someone vulnerable and they end up in hospital or worse?
Most people I know still test. Maybe you should change your social group.
Be responsible and caring, always test.

You still didn’t answer whether work paid for your testing?
